Yes the alt-coins certainly dilute the mining base but do they not also dilute the price of the useful coins? For most of this year I have mined other coins, and have profited nicely from them, but now it seems almost pointless because of the rate at which new ones are being released. If you don't get in on the correct new coin within the first few hours you'll end up not profiting anymore than if you had mined one of the major coins.

Good call.  I have switched back to mining JNK.  I like the developer he seems like an honest guy who has not squandered the reserve and is looking out for the best interests of the coin

Well I gave up on CHN I heard about this thing called ripple. I payed a guy called fontas in the btc-e trollbox 2 btc to setup ripple mining on my Pentium 4 cluster. It seemed really complicated but he used teamviewer and told me to go grab lunch so I did and he finally got everything done. I have high hopes :)
