Title: CORSAIR RM1000i 4+ GPU Does not Power on
Post by: tankucukhas on July 06, 2017, 05:26:23 AM
Recently I've purchased this rm1000i for building a ethereum mining rig on asus prime z270-a motherboard possibly 8+ GPU's. My plan was to run first 6 or 5 GPU's on RM1000i than get another 1300 or 1600WATT power supply for the rest of the GPU's. Now when I try to connect more than 3 gpu's the system does not power on, it feels like it doesn't have enough wattage but when I check usage for 3 GPU power usage along with the whole system it's not even 500watt on maximum load. Does this means I need to return this PSU and replace with an EVGA 1000watt or more, or am I doing something wrong? Does anyone have any experience using more than 3 GPU's on this PSU? Thanks in advance for your help.

Firstly welcome to the forum. Secondly this needs to be in the "Mining (Altcoins)" section of the forum. Thirdly are you hsing any kind of plug adaptors, like molex -> 6pin etc?

Sorry for the incorrect post category, I thought this should be hardware related. I'm not using adapters using the 6+2 cables came with the system.

Here is what I've plugged so far as soon as I plug another 6+2 PCIE system does not turn on.

It could have something to do with your motherboard. Are you able to boot into BIOS? I believe there are some settings you first need to configure with PCIE. There should be guides on this on google.

If i am not wrong your psu has configurable single or multirail 12 volts. Maybe you should configure it as single. Additionally, are you sure you are using correct cpu socket on psu. what you circled in red looks wrong to me.

You are actually right, I used the bottom slot for motherboard and used top right for the CPU. I've attached the correct layout now, please disregard  the other image. It looks like I only have two slots left for the gpu's but none of them works after 3rd card.

I'm also pretty sure it's not about motherboard because I can't even get to the bios screen it simply doesn't boot. (I've made the changes on the motherboard to make it support 3+ gpus)

I still have not find a solution but I made some research and it appears this PSU indeed supports multi-rail and single rail and comes multi-rail as default, however the issue is I'm using a linux distribution and not sure how can I change it to single rail without booting up windows.

My plan is the create a bootable windows Usb stick and change it to single rail but not sure if it would revert back to multi-rail once I unplug the power cable for adding additional GPU's.

If all fails I guess I'll return it and get an evga PSU.

I figured the issue was sata cables, if I plug more than 3 sata's suddenly system does not boot. I used same sata cable to power 2 risers and it resolved the issue.
