Title: How to create my own crypto currency?
Post by: bet101 on July 06, 2017, 10:15:20 AM
Hi All,

I want to run my own crypto currency and also fund the blockchain software to do so on GITHUB.

What will i need to properly start my project can anyone help me understand?

Is UBUNTU Server a must?

It sounds like you'd be better off just creating a token that runs on a developed blockchain. For instance, WAVES, NXT, XCP or BURST.

Many successful tokens have launched this way.

You'll need to recruit a couple of decent coders to make your own blockchain, and you'll need campaign manager, mining pools and a whole bunch of other stuff to do that.

Good luck whatever path you take!

It's not 'that' difficult to create one, obviously dependent on your technical skills. I appreciate this might sound a little rude, but it might not be something you are comfortable with?

There are services like: https://www.walletbuilders.com/ that will build altcoins for you. This isn't a vouch for the site, I've no idea if it actually works.

Quick google gives this set of instructions: https://gist.github.com/mhsjlw/8130158de01071aa8c87

Creating the cryptocurrency is the easy part, I'd imagine the marketing and then actually making the coin worthwhile for people to mine/use is going to be a difficult task especially in the day and age of Ethereum and other innovative tokens.

It's easy to fork a cryptocurrency but adding actual unique features and developing it actively is difficult.

OP if you're asking that question then maybe you shouldn't create one yet, take a look at Bitcoin's source code and learn how it works first. That would be a good start.

Exactly. There's no point in creating a clone coin that does nothing new, especially now that there are hundreds and soon to be thousands.

Discuss your ideas with people knowledgeable about Cryptos to get feedback and perhaps polish the concept, change it completely or simply start again. One mistake first time Entrepreneurs make is thinking that they shouldn't tell people their idea because they might steal it. In Cryptos, there are a bazzillion good ideas and room for more than one of the same ideas (eg. Augur vs. Gnosis).

Creating unique features in a crypto requires a fair bit of coding labour. So you'll either have to spend a bunch or get talent believing and boarding your crypto train.

If your idea doesn't require unique features, make a token on WAVES, BURST etc... and make it rain with shitcoin.

Why you want to do that ? You are wasting time, money and efforts involved.Or do you just want to show-off your github account that you did something as part of your college project ? lol

you don't need any money just some skill and patience, you need to follow some guide on how to compile and make a clone of the bitcoin and an hard fork of that, altcoin are hard fork of bitcoin or litecoin, pool the same thing, there are some guide like this one https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=959583.0

Yeah I liked this post a lot. You made it pretty clear in few lines how to make million dollar project. That's good one. It is true many ICO got shortlisted by all investors pretty quick when they tried it out. This is beneficial for both investor and the entity itself. You can also hire or partner with people from previous ICO projects who are willing to get the job done for you. Just checkout the white paper of every ICO and you will find how they formed the team and the big names in the industry.

It's good that you have chosen some path. I'm also on the verge of creating an ICO as I dont like the idea of investing money into mining and trading stuff. I wan to be on the other side of this platform to run something by myself.

Please keep us posted through this thread on your project. I will be watching this thread. Thanks a lot.
