Title: Celeron CPU stock fan, do you keep or replace with a better one
Post by: btcgolong on July 10, 2017, 12:43:43 AM

Celeron CPUs come with little fans, even though we aren't taxing our CPUs, do you keep them or upgrade them?

Nope. The most I do is wipe the goop off and apply artic silver 5. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

The fans are made by Intel for regular use at their rated TDP, and these processors probably won't get close to that during mining. Unless you are also mining with the Celeron (horrible idea most of the time), stock thermal paste and fan is just fine. If thermal compound goes bad, you can buy a 30g tube of cheap Chinese thermal paste for around a buck or two and it'll run well. You also won't need thermal paste for a long time.

If you're going to spend the money to replace with a better one, you may as well buy a better CPU that can still profitably mine.  Otherwise, there's no reason to use anything other than stock.
