Title: iMac White
Post by: rj98942 on May 10, 2013, 04:56:56 PM
I've got an iMac white that I can only mine with the CPU. Any suggestions on altcoins and pools I should join? it's running 10.6 right now.

Try litecoinpool.de, you can mine there with cpu.
LTC (litecoin) can you change into BTC (bitcoin)

Is there a point in CPU mining with current difficulty? I don't think so...

I'm afraid you will spend more money on the electricity than you will get in profit, at those hashrates.

Agreed, it's not worth it even if you install linux and mine Yac. Also you might damage your imac from the heat. Like others have suggested, your best bet is to start with Litecoin or one of the scrypt based alts on a build like this: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=163306.0 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=163306.0) Even then you won't be making about 3 or 3.5 litecoin per day at current difficulty. Using http://www.coinwarz.com/cryptocurrency/?sha256HashRate=1800.00&sha256Power=500.00&sha256PowerCost=0.00&scryptHashRate=1800.00&scryptPower=500.00&scryptPowerCost=0.00 (http://www.coinwarz.com/cryptocurrency/?sha256HashRate=30000&sha256Power=500.00&sha256PowerCost=0.00&scryptHashRate=30000&scryptPower=500.00&scryptPowerCost=0.00) or http://dustcoin.com/mining (http://dustcoin.com/mining) can help you plan and decide which coin will give you the best bang for your buck. Hope that helps and good luck!
