Agreed, do as Canary says if you are in US.  I cannot even come close to his prices.  This is mainly for the International people.

I have been inundated with orders and it looks like the buy in will succeed!  In the last 18 hours I have received about 800 orders, many of them don't have bitcoin at the moment but a few do.  I am in the process of assisting those who don't have bitcoin at the moment to buy some but there are all over the world and speak many different languages so it is tough going at times.

One question that keeps popping up is "What order will you ship in?", the answer to that is I am going to ship in the order that I received payment.

Is it that hard to get bitcoins around the world?

In Australia we have bitpiggy.com and spendbitcoins.com and it's been trivially easy since 2011.
Maybe we're spoiled!

We are, to tell you the truth I have never bought bitcoins before and this is a bit of an eye opener for me, for example, have you ever tried to get ahold of bitcoins from Zimbabwe?  I have, it's not easy.

Anyway, less than 24 hours to go, send in your coin's or miss out!!

Does MinePeon support the ASICMiner Block Erupter USB or do you think it will have support fairly soon after receiving the equipment?

It does (in theory, I have yet to test it)  It will most definitely require a powered hub though!

My Butterfly Labs ASIC is running directly off it but it has its own power supply.

UPDATE ON GROUP BUY: Everything has come to a halt over the weekend as people attempt to get bitcoins, I am still accepting new orders though.

I managed to get just over 50 paid and done for before the weekend and everything went dead because of the banks closing (and I hit the mattress exhausted).

It's just coming up 9am Monday morning here in New Zealand so I expect the banks to start opening again throughout the world and the race to begin again (I am not sure when I offered to help people to buy bitcoins but I might regret it :P )

I will try to give warning, I have to keep in mind that the people that have already paid want theirs ASAP but I also have to keep in mind that people are working hard to get the bitcoins and get included.

In short, there is no "cut-off" date at the moment but don't procrastinate.

This has to be the most frustrating undertaking I have ever done in my life..

ONE extra confirmed payment in the past 24 hours.... ONE!!!

The issue is getting currency into bitcoin, fortunately ASICMiner has not even started shopping the devices yet so I am going to lie and say that is the holdup :P .  With any luck now the weekend is fully behind us I will get 400 payments today (now I am lying to myself).

I have put together a few notes for people planning to do future group-buys (or if I do one myself).

1. Don't count a 'sale' a 'sale' until you have the bitcoin.

2. It is a lot of work, make sure that there is enough margin to reward yourself.

3. Don't think your going to fool customs (In my calls to customs both here and overseas I get the impression that they know about these group buys and are talking to each other about them).

4. Some people are funny, they will insist on not paying until others have paid leading to others not paying because others have not paid (circular logic at its finest).

To these people, I've paid, you can go ahead now!

I know other group buys are planning to ignore it all together or do some wonky math with the declared value but for the little bit extra that people are paying per device with this group buy it is protecting us all.

Depends... if your counting orders then it is well over what we need.

If your counting payments, a tad over 50 at last count.  I have done/doing all I can, its up to you guys when we finish.

If we've already paid do we receive some sort of confirmation from you that you've received the funds? Or do you need a signed message from the address we used to pay?

There is no payment confirmation email.  If you want to see your details you just use the link that was sent in the first email and it will tell you how much BTC has been received and how many devices that buys.

If anyone here wants to buy BTC via bitcoin.de I must warn you, that it will take you up to 3-4 weeks until you get the BTC. This is what I am going through right now.

1. Make account, enter your bank account
2. Wait for a test transaction to your bank account and enter code (takes up to a week)
3. Buy BTC
4. Transfer money to seller (takes up to a week)
5. Wait 14 days until bitcoin.de lets you pull your BTC from their wallet into yours.

If it makes you feel any better your not the only one feeling the 'buying bitcoin' pain.  Because most of my orders came from people that did not have bitcoin in the first place there are a lot of you.

I hve one guy in this group buy who says he is doing exactly that with the 10 he has paid for.

Definitely a rip-off, if not bordering on straight out scamming - comparisons to BFL/Avalon etc and details about ASICMINERs blades, but only one small mention of the actual speed.

People are going to be buying that expecting 5GH/s and getting rather pissed off. That can't be good for the image of BTC at all.

Is it worth contacting some of the other Block Erupter Group Buys and combining forces. If we managed to get 2 other groups to combine, we could all aim for 100 units each instead of the big ask of 300.

Then between the three groups arrange one order of the units, with one person passing on the units to the other two group leaders. Thoughts?

I could, but at the risk of sounding like a total ass---- I really don't want to.

The thing is, I priced it at 2.6 BTC to make sure that if I sell a single unit and pay all of the shipping, customs, taxes etc I would not be loosing anything.

While there is economy of scale, and multiple purchases do save on shipping and packing etc I was kind of hoping that I would get to keep the extra (yeah, I am an evil capitalist).

lol, I'm a capitalist too -- which is why I need to get a decent return on my investment. If I buy five, it will cost me 13 BTC for 1650MH/s. According to 50BTC.com, I will be mining 70 mBTC per day. This means it will take 185 days (over 6 months) to start making a profit. According to this forum, a 6 month return on investment is average. You also need to factor in market volatility and the difficulty factor. So now you can see where I'm coming from.

In fairness to you though, the USB Erupter does use very little power, and it is very compact. I plan to use MinePeon on my Raspberry Pi, which is your software. It would be nice if we could come to an arrangement :)

If they have no other way or it is just too hard to get bitcoin it does make some sense.  In most places in the world getting bitcoin is a pain.

Talking of closing, I am getting ready to email everyone with confirmations of how many and delivery address.  It will be very important for people to check over this email paying particular attention to the delivery address, after all this work I would be very disappointed if the devices did not get to you because of a simple error.

They are the colored ones.  There is no way of knowing what color they are until they are taken out of the packages though so you get what you get.


Talking about customs, I am shipping at least one unit to every continent on the planet (excluding Antarctica, I hear their internet is not stable enough for mining though).  I hope everything goes according to plan but with the amount of packages I am shipping experience tells me that it won't.

I suspect NZ customs will just think they are USB storage devices!

You may wish to wait until MinePeon is updated with cgminer 3.2.0, which should support auto-detection and hot-swapping of USB block erupters.

I have the next version running now with 3.2.0 and I am doing test with it at the moment, as soon as I can verify it I will be releasing it.

That's not actually too bad, I always allow 7-10 calendar days when buying stuff on eBay from HK to get to me here in Adelaide.

Are you going to email people or update the order status page when you ship each order out?

I will fire them an email telling them to look at their order status page and the details will be there.

Both packages now say Auckland by the way and I am making calls to find out exactly where and when I can get ahold of them.

After driving half way across the country (not really, only about 50k) I tracked down the first package and the first 50 have arrived!

As you can see I have arranged them all spitting on top of the sticky labels of their owners ready for me to stick in boxes (not in camera shot).

The second lot is still in Auckland with customs.

Second shipment just passed customs (with the required payments) so hopefully that will be here tomorrow.  It got held up a bit, must be something to do with the kilo of crack that friedcat sent me (jk).

I am leaving work today at 2pm (it is 10:30 am here now) to finish getting shipment one on its way.

Now I am going to sit down and watch the news.

I still have not received the final 65 and I am about to go for a drive to see if I can locate this one as well :D .

Just had a screaming match with DHL, even though I had paid everything for the second part of the shipment it sat in their office over the weekend!  To make things worse the tracking said it was on their way I only found out because I ran them to find out exactly where it was thinking that I could get in my car and pick it up.

I apologize that I am not packing these right now as I expected, I know international shipping is frustrating at times.

Had another loud discussion with DHL as to where the last 65 miners are, they assure me that they will arrive this afternoon, I only hope that it is time for me to repackage and send out again today (I have all the packaging ready, just need the miners to go in them).

I am leaving work early again today to make sure I have time (my boss has 10 in this shipment, so he is eager as anyone to get this done).

Truth be told, I was expecting them the day after the first 50 but you know how it goes with best laid plans etc..

I apologise I have been a bit quiet about updates, the truth is I wanted to wait a bit and see if a problem would get sorted out.  I am glad to say that it has though.

DHL lost the second shipment!

They were very reluctant to tell me but finally came clean yesterday after noon that they had absolutely no idea where it was, apparently some time after I paid all of the charges due it just disappeared.

After a day of threatening them with the Police, Interpol, CIA, FBI, CSI, IRD, GST, ABC and any other three letter acronym I could think of it has mysteriously appeared again.  I have just got off the phone with them and apparently the packaging is damaged but there are defiantly 7 smaller packages in it (ASICMiner ship the miners in boxes of 10 so that sounds about right) they are now counting the individual packages for me to make sure that it adds up to 66 individual smaller packages.

I apologie to everyone for the delays but it is nearly over.  My stress levels are finally starting to fall.

You would think in this economic climate people would be interested in giving good service so they can keep their job. Sounds like a good time to create a reliable courier company. Relax Neil, we all know how hard you are working on this for us. We appreciate the effort.

I hope the sticks arent damaged and that they would compensate in some ways.  Maybe your next batch gets some priority clearance from customs.

I got a note about unpaid tax on a delivery yesterday so I'm hoping it's this. £38 of tax :( but I sort of expected that. With luck it should be here today or tomorrow.

Yes, same thing unfortunately happened to me...£26.84 in VAT, £8 handling fee - £34.84 total.

Some of these packages are taking AGES to get to where they are going.  In future (if I have a future after the MtGOX event) I am going to have to make sure that people know how slow their shipping options are (and offer more shipping options).
