Title: trading with fast operations
Post by: Rcd1987 on July 13, 2017, 09:48:30 AM
Hi guys,

I'm a newbie in Bitcoins.
I used to do trading on stocks and now i would like to try the same thing on bitcoins. I want to know if it's possible to buy and sell bitcoins with fast operations (seconds or minutes).
I want to trade directly bitcoins (or other cripto-currencies) and not derivative instruments, but I read that, to complete a transaction, you need to wait the confirmation and this can require hours. It works like that? Are there some workarounds?

Yes, technically if you want to trade bitcoins from one wallet to another then you will need to wait until the transaction is confirmed. However, if you are trading on a single site then there is no such waiting time. You can trade USD/BTC and again BTC/USD within 30 seconds without waiting for any transaction confirmation as you are trading on a single exchange.

You can even trade stocks, forex, commodities using bitcoin through the platform like 1broker and it will hardly take 1 minute to execute your order if it is ordered within the market hours.

1.  Even though transactions don't confirm for a while, they send instantly.  You would just have to wait a while to confirm that the person couldn't double-spend.

2.  Exchange accounts are not wallets.  When trading on an exchange, you are not sending a transaction to the other party - the exchange is just transferring the numbers in their database from your account to theirs and vice versa, the numbers representing the coins which they are holding.

So basically, trades are executed instantly.  The only downside is that you have to trust the exchange with your coins, which in crypto is a big minus (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=179586.0).

There's no work around on that and its also for your protection as the usual problem with manual trading is both parties need to agree first on who will send first and after that if the other party will send after receiving the coins. Going to an exchange site makes it easier for the seller and buyer as both parties will have more choices or options on how much to buy.
