Title: Juniper Networks Netscreen
Post by: CJPOLO on May 11, 2013, 01:40:39 PM
So i am new around here but have been working in IT for years. I was wondering if anyone knows if you can use the Juniper Networks Firewalls and Routers to Mine seeing as they have ASIC chips in them? Has anyone tried it? Anyone with technical knowledge input would be great.

An ASIC is just an Application-Specific Integrated Circuit.
So the ASIC's used for bitcoin mining are specific for bitcoin mining.
The ASIC's used in a network firewall or router is specific made for network functions.
So the answer is no.

You can't, but your vision is good!!  I believe that as bitcoin becomes more and more mainstream, mining chips will be embedded into pretty much any electronic device that is connected to the internet.

Think of an ASIC as a software program hard wired into the chip.  To change the application, you have to redesign the chip.
