Title: [Breaking News] Definitive Proof of Yacoin FUD campaign.
Post by: Boba on May 11, 2013, 04:46:06 PM
If you look at the transactions to address https://blockchain.info/fr/address/1RPrtamTACe1TcqkX2FmWVtRzmQJ6CfRx which is claimed to be address of the "wallet stealer", you will notice all of the addresses who participated in sending the 256BTC transaction just receives funds within hours before. Now does that strike you as a fantastic coincidence or a staged "robbery"? I ask you.

Not FUD, some people downloaded a trojan from Limitless, a known scamming POS: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=200147.msg2109275#msg2109275

I believe the FUDsters operated independently of that. It had nothing to do with the FUD campaign I think, but of course it could have added to it.

You my friend, are an absolute retard.

That is the official cpuminer which you can find everywhere. https://github.com/ali1234/cpuminer

Example:

here: http://yac.dontmine.me/gettingstarted (minerd github)

or here: www.yacoin.org (cpuminer linux)

So don't go around accusing me of keylogging and stealing shit.

Good work. I followed one address and saw that every incoming amount went right back out in the time it takes to get the confirmations. Pondered for a bit about the behavior, gave up on the train of thought and moved on.  :P

I'd like to know how the f*ck he/she compromised my account! And why me?

Do you tend to reuse passwords alot? Or have you downloaded any suspect windows binaries that could have contained a keylogger?

Yes but to compromise my computer, for a bitcointalk account? What a waste of time!

Well, this was an interesting shakeout. Anyone that panic-sold their YAC after the first FUD thread didn't deserve a good price for it (compile yourself and use VM sandboxes! you'll KNOW you're safe then), and the brave souls who bought it up deserve the profit.

I was a little worried myself when the FUD threads came, since I'm holding some Yacoins that would be absolutely worthless if there really was a wallet stealer in original binary. My bitcoin wallet however is encrypted so wasn't worried about that. Plus most of my bitcoins are in cold storage anyways.

That's true.

I wonder if this whole yacoin FUD deal is going to put the brakes on the pace of altcoin adoption. Maybe people will realize they shouldn't download stuff the moment a link pops up in a thread... let the nerds have a look at the source code first  :)

I don't think so, considering how profitable it can be to early mine from the first minues of launch of a new altcoin. I blame it on the ridiculously low difficulty all the devs insist on launching the coins with.

The best thing to do is to mine with a operating system that you are prepared to have compromised.

What do you think of the great YAC supporter Limitless? https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=202292

There was a thread yesterday where he was proposing to take over the YAC project and hold the 1 million YAC pre-mine for bounties, but the whole thread seems to be gone now ::)

I must have missed that thread, anyway Limitless admitted to a scam. I don't like scammers, nuff said.

For clarity Limitless admitted to trade scams and nothing else, the whole yacoin stealing bitcoin is pretty much debunked or at the very least unproven.

Limitless has been banned while awaiting a scammer tag:  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=202292.msg2112731#msg2112731
