Title: [YAC] GPU mining of YAC?
Post by: drlukacs on May 12, 2013, 01:15:43 AM
The hash rates for YAC pools (http://yac.dontmine.me/statsAuth) look very similar to the GPU mining rates.

Is there a way to mine YAC using GPUs?

It is higher then this pools hash rate http://chn.dontmine.me/

Why are people even mining it? It dropped in value, even lower than FTC and CNC...

do it at the same time as other mining.

Its a CPU coin.....thats why people are mining it. And its actually innovative as compared to the rest of the recent currencies

Changing the parameter to N for scrypt.

Moving the power shift from one group of people with specialized hardware to another group with specialized hardware (IBM clusters).

Hey, I made my money from Yac already, I'm just smart enough to get out, while I'm ahead. It was doomed from the release. Diff too low, to many coins mined in such a short time. It hit an exchange, and people immediately flooded it into oblivion. Yacoin served it's purpose. It's never going to recover any value.

I was doing 46,000 kh/s with 200 servers on yac.dontmine.me.  I've spun down the farm for now but am watching profitability closely.

At present difficulty, I need about 1.5 BTC / 1000 YAC or so to make it worthwhile

Dumped too early my friend.

You implicitly admit you are planning to dump too.

Obviously worth a minimum of 1 BTC / 1000 YAC.  The guys who sold at .55 BTC on BTER were naive it was trading at about 1 BTC / 1000 on here before BTER opened it and the flood of sells rolled in

I made over $500 US, for 1 day of mining, with a single, 6 core CPU. I don't think I'll lose much sleep over it.

Can someone help answer the original question (instead of bragging about their profits)?

If there is one, it is not public yet.

Officially, no. Has someone hacked a mining program, and are using it to their advantage, possibly. I know if I was able to do that, I wouldn't be in any hurry to share with anyone.

I think the market for YAC is still too small to warrant someone developing a GPU version.

At 10 BTC / 1000 YAC I think the incentive will exist but not yet

So, perhaps the community should pay attention to this, and create GPU miner for YAC to put everyone on even ground?

What's the point? It's not profitable enough to bother

Not profitable if there is no short-cut to mine it really fast... Letting a few people use short cuts may harm the credibility of the entire cryptocurrency project.

how can a gpu miner be on even ground with a CPU miner ? except for those who have server clusters if you want one try this

Ironically, the incentive to develop a GPU miner will coincide with it not being worth developing, due to the increasing Nfactor and associated memory use. A quite elegant solution.

in probably a few more days it won't be .... but during the first few days it is... if you want to use this method use it in a pool instead of solo mining :)
