Title: Sapphire Vapor-x Ghz 7970 Litecoin Mining 800Kh/s
Post by: Spetznaaz on May 12, 2013, 12:51:18 PM
**EDIT - I do not think these settings are stable, after about ten hours GPU 0 reports as "DEAD" - Thus I wouldn't recommend using them. I will try and sort the problem when i get a chance and update.**

So i managed to get my 7970 up to 800Kh/s, stable so far, and thought i would share.

I'm not sure if the extra Kh/s is worth the extra wattage - i am going to order an electricity meter so i can find out what it draws and i'll update once i have.

If you have a Vapor-x 7970, and haven't yet flashed the BIOS - Check my other thread out first:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=200777.msg2095364#msg2095364

GPU Voltage        1187mV
GPU Clock           1135Mhz
Memory Voltage   1600mV
Memory Clock      1840Mhz

Fans Auto

cgminer --scrypt -o yourpool -u username -p password -s 2 --expiry 1 --queue 0 --thread-concurrency 20992 -I 13 -w 256 -g 2

The reason my other 7970 is running at 720Kh/s is due to the fact its airflow is restricted by the first card and therefore gets too hot for my personal taste. I have a PCI-e riser in the post to fix this.

my pcs 7970 can get about 740Khash with 1050/1250Mhz and voltage is 1.06 in afterburner,it drops ~ 1volt in GPUz

Yeah i can get 740Kh/s with much lower settings - As i say i'm not sure if it's worth the extra wattage, but i'm just showing it can be done relatively easily, and with decent heat. Once i get the wattage meter i'll work out whether it is in fact worth doing and update.

Would you mind moving Afterburner, slightly to the left?

My Sapphire Vapor X 7970s were running too hot. I had to shut down one of them because it was going up to 95c. It runs okay with two of them around 85c each but its still unstable.

How do you keep them cool? I'm getting around 666-700khash each.

Could you post a picture of your mining rig?

Hmmm, you used all those voltage settings yeah? and fans on auto?

And you've flashed the BIOS? And using all the settings i put on the other thread, and setting max allocation gpu..?

If the answer is yes to all of those, then i am very confused why your temps are so hot and hash rate is so low.

Also don't forget you may need to adjust your GPU speed slightly as all GPU's are different (apparently).

Could you post a picture of your mining rig?

Yeah will do when i get a chance

So i fell asleep and when i woke up GPU 0 displayed as "DEAD".

I may of jumped the gun a bit. I'm going to leave it on overnight and see what the situation is in the morning.

7970s with -g 2 need -I 13 --thread-concurrency 8192 or you will get HW errors and sick or dead gpu mining. Core and Memory Clock ratio is key to high hash.

Dude, you will kill your cards keeping them in that box.. Seriously I highly recommend you use PCIE raisers. I have 3 gigabyte 7970s all on raisers - non powered (there is no reason to buy powered raisers, GPU get enough power from Pin cables). Cards run at 1.256V and hottest gets to 82C during the hot day.

What's the logic of using "-s 2 --expiry 1 --queue 0"???

I can get up to about 550 on my Sapphire 7970. @1499, 82, and 20992.

Gotta figure something else out.

If I push memory past 1700 I get a blank screen.

if i was a gpu and i had emily scott watching me i'd mine faster too.

ps you have the exact same full tower case as me! i love that one, it impresses all the non nerds taht come to my house! its a beast!

In my experience Sapphire is junk.

A Gigabyte 7950 will hash more consistently at 660-680 than any 7950 ever built.

My $.02.

:)

I have had my sapphire rig (3x 7950s) running non stop for over a month without reboot. All cards doing ~680kh/s and I'm also getting about 20kh/s out of the APU and mining primecoin on the APU also. :D
I haven't even restarted CGminer in that month. Its rock solid.

My XFX rig on the other hand...(3x 7950s)
My cards top out at 620kh/s and requires an automated reboot every 6 hours to keep it from displaying dead for one of the cards. Oh and one of my XFX cards had a fan die, waiting on xfx to get back to me on that but somehow its still only topping out at 78c. All i can say is this round "box" fan I have on the XFX rig is AWESOME.

I've had several XFX 7970 fans go on me. If yours are just kind of sticky and won't spin I use some teflon spray I got at Lowes and it brought them back to life, like new. Also used a product that is a little more specialty called  de-oxit, which is for electronics cleaning, also did the trick once when my teflon spray wasn't handy. Now a little teflon spray periodically is standard procedure for routine maintenance.
