Title: is the hardware worth it for building a rig?
Post by: thatstrangeguy on July 18, 2017, 08:47:53 PM
So I am thinking about building my own rig, What would i expect the return to be if I used overclocked GTX 1060 with 6gb ; if I could get 6 of them at $300 a piece?
Will they work for a while or are they already too out of date to generate enough money to be of interest?

Well since youre in the bitcoin mining forums, then yes, you are late, around 4 years too late. You wouldnt see any ROI on those GTX 1060 ever. Now if your interest is Bitcoin mining then you'd look towards Asics, but even then i warn you, you would need to drop a significant amount of money for it to even be worth it. If you'd like to mine with GPUs, the move this thread to altcoin mining speculation, and start considering ethereum mining. Here is a list of some of the top GPU's of Ethereum mining in case you're interested:

A stable hashrate of overclocked 6 GB GTX 1060 will be 23-23.5 mhsh at best, multiplied by 6 is 141 mhs. To calculate how much money will you make in a month I go to http://miningspeed.com/list/ethash.php (http://miningspeed.com/list/ethash.php) and enter 141 mhsh in the hash box. It shows you will make  a profit of 355 USD a month. Since they are 6 GB they will continue to mine Ethereum until it goes to Pos from Pow (from proof of work to proof of stake). Now its up to you if you think this is a worthy investment or not.

This is In Bitcoin mining speculation, I dont think hes considered Ethereum yet.

This need to be moved to altcoin mining board but I think he has considered Ethereum , Zcash, Lbry and Monero as long as he is talking about GPU mining. These are the coins to be mined with GPU. I think he confused where to post it and post it in the bitcoin mining section. Bitcoin can only be mined with S9 antminers nowadays.
