Title: how does blockchain.info get the originating IP?
Post by: jabetizo on May 12, 2013, 07:20:49 PM
I made a transaction with the qt client. Even though I had the client running for days and probably relayed thousands of transactions, blockchain.info correctly only shows that transaction originating from my IP.

How is this done, does blockchain.info try to connect to every single node?

They don't know the originating IP; only the IP that first relayed it to them.

I am aware of that. That's why it seems strange that out of the thousands of transactions that I relayed, only the one that really originated from my IP is shown on http://blockchain.info/ip-address/x.x.x.x

It's not always right.

No transactions involving me were relayed by my IP to blockchain.info.

Blockchain is a very well connected node as well.
