Title: Which ones are real, Which ones are a scam?
Post by: CHRISBIN702 on July 20, 2017, 03:07:12 AM
Ok. I hope we can get some good insight here on these ICOs. Let's be real about this and not only stand behind our signature's ICO. Maybe we can make more educated decisions about our investments through common consensus.

I am not much active to ICO's at this time I will have a look at this and will research about them. Till now what I have learned about ICO is most of them are scam and only a few are worthy so it's better to research about it first then only invest in those which are worthy.

OK cool. Any thoughts on DIMCOIN? They seem to have a lot of support and a lot of investor money too. Hope they are legit.

It's hard not to be tempted to follow the frenzy, especially when profits are soaring for the rare exception.
Most important criteria to adhere to When determining if a project is legitimate or if you are looking and just...some guy is as follows.
There should be a white paper or at least a record of the history of progress including a road map of goals, specific dates and there should be a service, product or a solution to a problem at the heart of it.
For example:  you might be looking at a scam is the "ICO" is not much other than
Bubzywubbzy Coins hosted by surfsup token platform, no developers working on any thing. Bubbzy wubbzy is someone's uncle trying to skim a buck from the frenzy.

Be careful

probably all of them are scams  ;D

the market is so over-saturated with ICOs.. we're getting to a point where projects have to deliver results, not just hype and marketing.  also, you don't need a blockchain for a lot of things, only things that require censorship resistance.. main thing i see missing in this space is decentralized gambling (mainly poker and prediction markets like intrade).. a lot of projects claim to be working on this for years, so why isn't fucking 1 in the wild yet?

If you can't sense which projects are real and which ones are scams, it's better to stay away from investing.

Just buy BTC. You will get awesome returns.

Currently, it is better to refrain from any ICO's. There is so many scam.

Assume everything is scam, then search for signs pointing to not being a scam.

I think it is a very bad time to throw money at these projects, SEC, forks, just too much uncertainty, better be conservative with our money.

Yeah it is a good idea to refrain from any ICO's and it is not just so many scams, but probably all of the coins listed on the poll are scam after all, it is still in ICO pace and it is hard to tell which is scam and which is real. Also, some altcoin's name there seems to have been made up on the spot. If there were real ones there, the number of not scam ICO's in the list are maybe one to three ICO's listed.

This isn't going to be a useful thread unless people actually contribute their knowledge about a particular alt. BTW, there are discussions that ICOs simply issuing tokens on blockchains shouldn't really be considered crypto alts. But in any case, my comment is about Monsterbyte and why it shouldn't be a scam:

1. No frenzy, because no promise of huge returns. Dividends model.
2. Existing business model. Actual financial reports already published.
3. ICO to raise fixed reasonable amount of $1 million for growth.

Plain, simple, no crazy idea with confusing theories.

I dont know which one real or which one scam. I also think its not necessary for me right now.because when i invest any ICO then i will research about the ICO. I will search the source the road map the team all of source about the ICO.
Now in this forum a lot of ICO started and many of them  scam also(may be).But without escrow i never invest any ICO project.

I lack knowledge about ICO, but so far I know that dimcoin is a very promising coin, they have some good projects and the flow of funds from investors so smoothly, can not imagine if eventually this coin even a scam.

It is hard to determine which ones are a scam and which ones are the good. You need to spend a huge amount of time investigate each of them and come to your own conclusion.

You can start your research with the following elements:

  • Read the whitepaper
  • Investigate the team
  • Check if you really believe in the solution
  • Look their social media
  • Check on every angle possible

Then check in a few day if you want to participate or not with your hard earned money!

There is no clear indicators that can make people to know the real or scam ico because the scam ico team often has enough funds to throw around for advertisement and thereby attracts a very large audience while the real ico might not even have the funds to finance their project.

For me %97-99 of them are not scam but also in my opinion, at the same rate they are not investable. To conclude whether they are scam or not I invest only 2 or 3 of these projects.

Your list is all scam.

One of my biggest pet-peeves is finger pointing and scam accusation without anything standing behind the claims. The reason I started this topic was to promote due diligence. Every ICOs and ITOs ANN thread has some moron or group of them posting scam accusations without a leg to stand on. I'm not saying everyone needs to be a gumshoe blockchain detective.... Just, please don't post spam here and please don't randomly accuse thirty companies of being a scam in one swoop. If you suspect something but can't or don't know how to prove it, that's fine. We are here to discuss these types of things and help each other out. Whether it be the accuser or the accused. Any type/amount of evidence supporting your claim is a requirement to promote change.
Thank you for your post.

This is a very interesting point. Something for us all to think about. I have been guilty of thinking an ICO must be legit after seeing the fancy graphics on their ANN thread.

I'd say at least 7Type is base on their site. That is an amazing piece of work.

I know people are losing faith in ICO's, but some are trying to use the technology to improve current models. I agree that it's hard to tell real from a scam (other than 7Type). :)

I'm conducting an ICO at protostarr.io, and am hoping that people see the value in the product. It isn't too complicated on our end and our long term benefit depends on the DApp being successful. I guess that is one thing you can look for is how you are actually going to profit from the purchase without depending on the market to just start adopting their coin.
