BBC (http://www.bbc.com/news/technology-40654194) came in late but better than nothing we shall at least get more exposure and possibly new users to join the crypto world but reading the article i honestly think its too back dated!
Quote
Moreover, fees have also risen, hitting a high of $5 per transaction at the start of June.
Such news reporting will dent bitcoin, fees are far much better now

I think this is a good news. Bbc is one of the news studio that is so reliable that makes all people around the globe watch their news as it spread throughout the world. Which means that bitcoin will be known to the whole world. It would be so cool for this to happen, it will make us reach the cryptocurrency world we are talking about where all people use cryptocurrency as a currency of their country.

Yup and the story is now in the top 10 most read articles.

Meanwhile elsewhere in the cryptosphere the BTC price is breaking out.

Since several hours the price is increasing rapidly, I think it's because we are close to the lock-in, and it looks promising at this moment.

And now its already approaching $2600.

At the current rate its almost certainly locking in this period if not then F2pool and Slush should signal in the next period.

Funny thing is they were able to recognize bitcoin when it is almost a decade now and when its price is more than $2000.  But it is better late than never.  Feauturing bitcoin in a news channel like bbc will open more doors for bitcoin and for us.  It could open more establishments to accept bitcoin as means of payment.  Bitcoin price will continue to go up if there would be more user.

Most prominent display of Bitcoin news we have ever seen on the BBC news web portal:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news
There are only 3 reasons that bitcoin makes it in the mainstream media headlines:

1) The price is hitting all time highs or some kind of impressive rally
2) The price is crashing and breaking floor resistances
3) Another fake satoshi is found

This is literally all they ever report. They never report anything actually interesting. Just ignore mainstream media, they are clueless.

This is the one that everyone likes  :D no matter what media it is if someone claims to be Satoshi then they make it a huge news even though they are pretty sure its a fake Satoshi. This is one of the reasons I don't like mainstream media they are always on the frontline to show news even if it's fake if it is their good interest.

How media can change the situation with bitcoin? It does not have the power to make even the government. Journalists are just trying to jump on the leaving train and earn money for the report. Nothing depends on them. The blockchain lives on the network and users don't care attitude to bitcoin, the Media or the government. Get used to freedom.

Mainstream media cannot seem to see through the scam that is Ethereum.  ::)

"........Such as schism could help rival cryptocurrencies, such as Ethereum, prosper and ultimately doom Bitcoin altogether. " Bitcoin users know

the difference between a coin where you have ZERO centralized authority and control {Bitcoin} and a coin that has a Foundation with centralized

control. This Foundation can be corrupted and arrested and influenced by governments.  >:(

Not very appealing but there's no such thing as bad publicity  :P

Notwithstanding the fact that some data can already be outdated, still the fact that BBC allotted space and time for Bitcoin is already some sort of a victory. Now, we should be happier if BBC can give regular updates for Bitcoin in their news. Good media coverage coming from big networks can help in the spread of Bitcoin especially to people who have not yet heard what it is.

Now, that the civil war can be over for good and we can all move on...I am so sure that Bitcoin's price can astronomically accelerate to greater heights never seen before in the entire Bitcoin history. And again, I am sure mainstream media can be covering that related story.

it does look like there is an upsurge at the moment as we pass $2600

As usual, a lot of negatives been thrown in the article. Very typical of the BBC. They have mentioned that BTC came down to $1,800 from a peak of $3,000. But there is no mention of its rise from $1,000 per coin to $3,000. Also, the article clearly mentions that the fee can be as high as $5, but hides the fact that right now even $0.10 fee transactions are getting confirmed.

Can't see anything directly related to Bitcoin off of the link, maybe it moved or I'm getting redirected to localized news because of something with their website, but the biggest article I see right now is the seizure of two dark web domains, looked through the rest and I didn't see any kind of Bitcoin-related thumbnails from the main page. This might have been the reason for the rapid pump within the market though, it wouldn't surprise me if this had some implications for the community, assuming I knew what they had put in the article lol.

Can't see anything about bitcoin there unless you are talking about the Alphabay shutdown, if this is the story then it isn't that great of a thing as it's just more association with the bad elements of what bitcoin can be used for, maybe they moved the story?

$2600+ already looks like all the fud about hardfork and network split is over. The one who have bought during price dip below $2000 is now happy investors including me ;)

More media coverage will be out there when bitcoin price will be over $5k soon.

Yeah, seams like everything is going in that direction. Spliting could just fall aside and the price could continue with the rising path. And investors realy had great chances to make nice profit these past few days. So, let's all looking forward for the bright future of Bitcoin and solving the issues.

Finally, everything is back to normal with 80%+ miners running Segwit2x. A positive wave and so the price. Bitcoin is touching new heights now. Thus, media coverage was inevitable. Bitcoin is finally becoming mainstream.

Read the report, its all about the Alphabay shut down. I read somewhere that the closing of both Hansa and Alphabay had a lot to do with the price dip last week. Especially for Eth. People may see this as negative news, but not for me. These darkmarkets, as much as I don't like them have played huge roles in making crypto technology mainstream.Without the silk roads and alphabays, I very much doubt if cryptotech will be where it is today.

Oh so it's an article which is half-hitpiece and half educational for new individuals who haven't heard of or used Bitcoin before. Well, it wasn't bad but I feel like they could have done a lot better with what they have. Not that long of an article either.

I probably found more interesting information from the article on that MtGox leader pled guilty to manipulation and embezzlement. Good to know that the dude was faking it and it wasn't really a "real" pump to $1k and now the community is very confident in Bitcoin.

They are sure picking the worst from bitcoin  :P.  That makes their story more interesting and at the same time somehow favors government stand about bitcoin.  They are playing safe mate!  But at least they should give the right information about Bitcoin.  Anyway as what the early reply stated, there is no bad publicity, this will cater a new huge interested to bitcoin people for sure.

Alphabay was a huge supporter of alts and iirc the guy hanged in his cell has compared Btc with myspace. The demise of Hansa is bad news, it was the most reputable dnm. Btc would be down 200 if it had happened on a day when the market would listen to bad news, fortunately this is not the case ;)

As far as my memory is concerned, I think there is already an exposure of Bitcoin in the past in BBC News.

But I don't take that as a big deal in terms of exposure. Just look at how far bitcoin increase it's popularity with only few hypes in the media. And not just that, because there are some big bitcoin news happened recently, we can really expect that it will be broadcasted by mainstream medias.

Yes. Media has to do nothing with the values of bitcoins. They are just talking about bitcoins to increase their ratings because people are already madly into bitcoins. I am really blissful that big media channels are considering bitcoins important to be discussed. It’s really good for the survival of bitcoins. This will help people trust bitcoins and soon going to increase the number of investors.
