Title: Help! Electrum saying unsupported seed version
Post by: AnimalHungry on July 20, 2017, 08:07:25 PM
Hi guys - I'm new here. So I mined about 130 LTC back in 2013-14 and had it stored in an Electron wallet locally on my PC. I regularly backed up the default_wallet and wallet.dat files. I didn't even open the Electron app for a couple of years until today when I open it and it says "Your wallet has an unsupported seed version" and then lists the local wallet location on my hard drive. So then I download the 2.8.3.5 version of Electron and it has found my LTC coins but says it is "imported, watching only", which I think means I can't actually sell or do anything with my LTC. Is this right? When I installed the Electron wallet in 2013 I was never given a word seed key. Any ideas how I can get my LTC back and use them/trade them?

Cheers
Simon

Sounds like before you upgraded you should have opened the old version of Electrum-LTC and had it display the seed (wallet > seed) and write it down.

Thanks. I don't understand why I can't open the old version now. These are all portable exe files so I haven't actually upgraded the local version on my PC, I just opened the new Electrum portable. I don't understand the error message the old version is giving me.

I also have all the Electrum-LTC user files under AppData/Roaming/Electrum-LTC. Can I somehow load these into a new wallet?

Cheers
Simon

OP sorry you are having trouble. I don't actively use Electrum-LTC your best bet for help may be the irc channel (http://webchat.freenode.net/?channels=electrum-ltc).

it is called Electrum not Electron (just in case you are using a false wallet, do a double check).
and in case you have your wallet files and if you are lucky and you have not encrypted them with a password, you can easily open your wallet file in a text editor and see its content (not sure how the old .dat file worked though).
in that you can see your Seed phrase, your addresses, your tx, and your private keys.

I'm not a mod so i can't move this thread. You can see the forums for litecoin electrum on their website:

Thanks. It turns out I was in the wrong wallet! I downloaded Litecoin Core, updated the blockchain (almost 6 years worth!) and boom! there were my coins. Cheers everyone!
