Title: Is BBC Cheating?
Post by: Ucy on July 21, 2017, 10:00:38 AM
Guys, I Googled "Alphabay" to research more on the issue and guess which website popped up first? It was the BBC. I found the ranking very suspicious that I decided to search with with a different search engine (www.duckduckgo.com) and BBC was Ranked below. You could try searching yourself to see if you'll get thesame result.

Incase you don't know, Alphabay was closed down recently for allegedly selling illegal goods on the Internet(Darkweb).

Well I just searched the word alphabay on google and the first thing on the list is the alphabay wikipedia.  Then on the news on BBC was the news of shutting down of alphabay so basically the BBC is not cheating.  It does have the news about the alphabay so it does popped out.  Thanks for the information about the alphabay, I do not know what it is and what it is use for.  Reading about it that it is from a dark market makes me shiver a little.  Dark market is something I do not want to enter into.  Sorry but it is kind of creepy for me.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Search_engine_optimization (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Search_engine_optimization)

The BBC is a publicly owned broadcasting corporation, based in the UK.  Google is a privately owned company based in the US.

I mean do you even think about your conspiracy theories before making them up on the spot?

I always thought the BBC was based in UK, and its owned by the British Government, why would a British Public owned corporation be based in the USA?

I think it's about search engines and your location, i don't think it's cheating.

BBC News is on of the biggest news outlets, the most read news site and the most linked to news site. These are the type of factors that determine what gets ranked first.

Why would it be a surprise that they are ranking on top ? or "cheating" ?

What you were expecting when you were searching for Alphabay in Google? You expected them to provide the onion URL? Search for any of the onion sites in Google, and you will not get the URL. For that you need to depend on the other sources.

What do you find suspicious about this? I see nothing weird about thus at all!

According to this resource (https://www.sourcelinemedia.com/how-do-search-engines-rank-websites/]]https://www.sourcelinemedia.com/how-do-search-engines-rank-websites/ (http://)) eaxh search engine has its own formula for calculating their rankings.

what is it about your search experience that makes you believe something nefarious is occurring?
