I really expected something, up or down, but you would have never been able to tell such a significant milestone Bitcoin's history had occurred from looking at the price history.

The price went up pretty significantly during the months preceding the halving. Since everyone knew it was coming, it was already priced in by the time it happened. If it goes smoothly, the price will rise after everyone is comfortable withe event. If it causes problems like last time there will be a dip.
