Title: The superiority of Bitcoin
Post by: Chikitita2004 on July 21, 2017, 09:01:19 PM
Hey folks! I just wonder, what is with Bitcoin that until now it is still in it's peak and still unbeatable. Has not any one ever invented a new/other currency that matches the value of bitcoin? And if there would be What should it take for a new currency for instance to match the value level of bitcoin? Has anyone here ever thought that a new currency more superior than bitcoin could come out one day and bitcoin value would decrease or fall?

There are alternatives to bitcoin, and some of them are very big, like Ethereum or Litecoin. However, no such alternative has matched the value of bitcoin, in terms of market cap. Bitcoin shares much less of the total cryptocurrency cap now than it did a while ago, but I do not think it will be overtaken for some time, if ever.

ETH would have to approximately double to match bitcoin's price. Not much for a cryptocurrency, and it is a much younger currency. And that's despite bitcoin's first mover advantage.

My opinion of ETH is pretty low to say the least so it wouldn't take that much for a good currency to overtake I guess. It goes to show how much damage has been done to bitcoin those last few years.

It depends on how you look at it.  At this time, there are a tremendous number of alternative platforms that are specialized for specific applications. What sets bitcoin aside from them is that bitcoin has remained the gateway protocol for their entry.  In other words, bitcoin is the number one currency used to invest in the alternative platforms so bitcoin's value is intrinsically related to them.  The recent trend in the ICO markets, which target specific applications on the ethereum blockchain, may disrupt bitcoin's dominance in those areas....but they could also lead to complications for the ethereum network....One's thing is for sure, we are in some interesting times and we are lucky to be aware enough to be here witnessing them.

ETH is worth much more than it should be. It won't overtake Bitcoin, chances are it will crash into oblivion.
What you should think about is the volatility of RTH. When it crashes it crashes hard. People are holding it only because it's growing. They don't care what it can or can't do with their country's finances and economy.

Given the many criticisms of Bitcoin - and a lot of the new altcoins seem to be created just to fix them - I wonder sometimes if Bitcoin is so valuable only because it was first.

Brother it's not about new technologies or innovations or transaction speed ot network strength or anything. It's all about the strength of the bitcoin community. And none of the altcoins will be able to beat up bitcoin.

Still on peak because it was continously supported by the community. Other coins are just meant for profit purposes even those who has a decent price today. Bitcoin is used now not just for investment but as a currency.

There are coins created to add features that bitcoin doesn't have. That was their advantage. But still there are bitcoin developers putting effort to make this coin more developed although there is an ongoing civil war currently on the making. I believe that if bitcoin will fail and eventually will lose it's value, majority of people in the world will not trust anymore the idea of using cryptocurrency. Just imagined from let's say $3,000 worth of 1 bitcoin it will goes down to less than $100 because most whales will transfer to another coin.

Bitcoin is on top, due to the large community behind it and this forum is an example. Since bitcoin is the most expensive crypto currency and has the best market cap, therefore it is hard for other crypto currencies to overtake bitcoin.
There are other alternatives such as Ethereum but bitcoin is more popular than that. Bitcoin also introduced blockchain technology and was the first decentralized crypto currency.
Some of the reason why bitcoin has such a supporting community

I agree with you and I wouldn't touch it for anything other than short term speculation, and with a bargepole :P But it's still amazing how far it's managed to go against bitcoin. To me it says a lot about how vulnerable bitcoin is.

If somebody doesn't get its act together fast (I won't mention names...) and start focusing on bitcoin development rather than get distracted by other ventures then bitcoin will be overtaken

Fack ETH, that shit worth nothing now that a new competition is in the market, waves is much better than ETH and has a much more bright future than ETH.
Buy before it's price goes to the moon, so cheap only $3 now and it was $1 a week ago.
Lets talk Bitcoin, imagine another coin surpassed it in everything then what? then the question would be: why isn't there any competition for this coin?
After that another coin, well Bitcoin right now people are just exploring it and it hasn't yet reached the full potential, think it's another coin, people investing and seeing what happens, that's exactly what we're doing now.

When i just thinking about that coin it is almost impossible to create a coin that is more superior than bitcoin because it could go through a lot of process and development before it become a good coin in the market and also need a lot of pump in a lot of year so that a lot of investors invest.

It is the first digital currency, most of the people bought it and then experience a big pump and then, most of them knew what happened and invest more on bitcoin because it might do the same thing and may also make them millionaires making the price of bitcoin sky rocket. Also, I can't see other crypto that will surpass bitcoin's value, but in terms of features, there is a lot more advanced and good cryptos.

Agree to this. Bitcoin is the giant of cryptocurrency. The first invented cryptocurrency. But, I think some coins might beat it. But it will took so many years to beat it. If there is one coin that could defeat it. It would probably be the second one which is etherium.

People have tried to come up with their own ways to chip away at Bitcoin and tried to make something that is bigger than Bitcoin; that's why we have the various altcoins (and shitcoins) that populate the cryptocurrency market. XRP, ETH, and the like are all coins or tokens that have been developed to try and be a better Bitcoin, and both of them have their own respective functions and features, but neither of them has really "beat" Bitcoin. And that's likely how it is going to remain for a fairly long amount of time.

Because it is the first of all of the cryptocurrency it is the best of them all because it is the original coins and other coins are just a alternative of bitcoin i guess because it is the first it is the first to be process and be develop it self to become more applicable and more useful to be the best coin in the market also the market value was so high so no doubt it is the best coin in the market.

Most alt coins have been created to make a quick buck. Those alts that try to bring something new to the table, usually have problems of their own. Trying to fix something, does not necessarily mean succeeding at fixing something.

Of course there are some factors that trigger the position of bitcoin remain in the top until now, although there are many cryptos that appear. First, the bitcoin as the first and the oldest cryptocc, of course the belief of people will be more given to the more experienced in this field, in terms of cryptocc, that's bitcoin. Secondly, if viewed from the market cap, eth can reach half of the market cap bitcoin. But for the price, eth is still far below the bitcoin, meaning the higher the price of crypto, the market cap will be more difficult to increase (my opinion). Third, the number of investors, so far bitcoin still holds the highest number of investors from other cryptoss.

There are many altcoins created and supposedly surpass bitcoin as a crypto currency one of these examples are Ethereum that is created by bankers meant to replace bitcoin but the bitcoin enthusiast doesn't want to invest their money on something that is centralized and buggy. What they want is a free and decentralized currency that is not regulated by any government or banks and not designed for exploiting the people from the tyranny of this capitalist. You ask why bitcoin is still number because it is a free currency that is widely used a payment system and now been legalize by some countries.

What I mean is, look at this coin http://coinmarketcap.com/assets/coeval/ > $1208 right now.
I didn't notice about it, but yesterday it appeared, out of nowhere, suddenly take the second position of the highest price of cryptocurrencies.
It seems that I'm missing something about this coin, FYI : it got 95% increased (pumped) yesterday.

Most of the people who didn't intrigued by those factors has a high risk of losing money. you know when a pump happens particularly when a huge one occurs. people are saying

that this certain coin-- which pumped is the future of crypto and other exaggerated things but when it dumped, then they'd just said that its done for. many altcoins pumped and

reached prices like that or close to that but didn't actually stayed on the top 10 for too long unlike eth and ltc. you're just basing it on its price which is not a good move because

1. Low market cap 2. low volume 3. only have one exchange. If eth and other top alts didn't make any significant competition on bitcoin. i doubt that it will atm.

I'm still very sure bitcoin will be the most widely used digital currency for a long time. At this time still no one can compete with bitcoin, maybe only the etherum has begun to look prospect. But between etherum and bitcoin still have a great distance. So bitcoin remains a digital currency used by many people.

A crypto more superior than the founder itself? The world of crypto is equal to bitcoin already. I highly doubt there will ever come day another crypto will even get at par with bitcoin. Come to think of it, there are already almost a thousand cryptos. Not one has reached halfway of what bitcoin has achieved.

I take that by value, you mean the price, right?

By now, it is not that hard to create a new cryptocurrency that is just like Bitcoin. Its source code is available on the public so anyone knowledgeable on these technical stuffs can make a new one. Hell, there are many cryptocurrencies out there and yet they cannot surpass the "superiority" of Bitcoin. Bitcoin is strong, it has been proven years ago and up until now. Bitcoin also has the more number of users and has a large number of support from its community. So others (alts) may rise and go up against Bitcoin but I assure you that Bitcoin will not be moved.

for a simple reason, are other coin supported and adopted by a whole country like japan? no they don't use ETH or litecoin for shipping, and until then no altcoin can even dream to beat bitcoin

they offer fancy solution and new tech like masternodes full anonymous, and other finesses but none matter when it come to succeed and not just be an investors tool

bitcoin have all benefits than other coins, bitcoin was launched for the first time, people know bitcoin first than any other coins. bitcoin is like a bridge between real life and online life. bitcoin still don't have competitor until now and it still the strongest cryptocurrency ever. the other coins maybe have bright future like bitcoin but they really need much of time to beat bitcoin itself and they should make many innovations to compete with bitcoin.

maybe in future, there are any of coin that will replace bitcoin but in that time, bitcoin is still be the leader for cryptocurrency and more people will use bitcoin.

Market cap is a much better indicator of a cryptocurrency's performance than price. Sure, maybe 1 "CoEval" is $1200, but how many are there? Less than 50,000! Bitcoins are $2750, but there are 350 times as many bitcoins as there are CoEval tokens. If you made a currency with only 10 units in the world, and the price got to $100k, the market cap is still only $1m, 46,000 times smaller than bitcoin's market. So just because you pay more for 1 unit doesn't mean it's a bigger. That's like saying bitcoin is bigger than the euro because 1 BTC costs more than 1 EUR.

I will add that the superiority of bitcoin goes beyond being a currency because other currency have been developed that even claimed to be of more superiority to bitcoin but still they are far behind and the reason is not far fetched but due to the massive adoption of bitcoin which is not stoping the feat bitcoin was able to cover and still growing is far beyond what others can meet up any time soon to the extent that anyone outside the crypto community does not know any other crypto than bitcoin.

BTC direct competitor are mainly LTC, Monero, Zcash and Dash. Zcash has the highest market value at this point of time. I personally think that LTC might have the potential to catch up the most now that the coin creator is back working on LTC again. The main problem with BTC is that BTC has grown too big and too fast which result in high transaction speed and fees. I do believe that BTC has to solve all these problems before there will be a mass adoption for using the currency. However that is not easy because for BTC to solve these problem, BTC has to go through some very tough soft or hard fork (decisions) which majority of BTC holders won't agree to (a big part of them are in for investment rather than doing good for the world). That would brings us back to BTC direct competitors eventually.

I believe so that is if and surely it won't happen soon. If somehow in the future where Bitcoin has changed and what people made them love it would disappear or somehow offers more than what Bitcoin can offer then people would go what is the best. Still, Bitcoin will not be forgotten since it is where Cryptoworld sparks and blockchain technology been introduced.

But there are no real competitor that Bitcoin has rather than Bitcoin itself. The problems that Bitcoin is facing is the real competition that it should win that is as long as it goes with the demand and maintain its standings with developments to suit people's need then I would say Bitcoin will continue to reign. This, I believe, is the lifeline of Bitcoin.

there are two different discussions here that are so close and may be confused with each other.

1. discussion about price
if you only want to talk about price then it is meaningless in my opinion. there have been many altcoins in the past that have exceeded bitcoin price. they have been worth more than 1BTC. for example IIRC, 1 ZEC was worth 6+BTC at some point.

there are many other things like price that people compare alone.
things such as daily volume, marketcap, ... and none of these "numbers" mean anything when you look at them alone.

2. discussion about superiority in general
this is the important matter that you should discuss and seek more information about.
all the single factors above come in handy here. you should look at them all at once. the price, the marketcap, the circulating supply, the real supply, the total supply, the amount premined, the amount in ICO, .... also you should look at things like how many people are using that coin and what for. is it just for speculation and inside exchanges or is it in real world also. how many merchants are accepting that coin, is it really used as they say.

and when you combine all these factors and look at the big picture you can see the "superiority of bitcoin"

The superiority of bitcoin can be tied to many things:
- Fast transaction times and low confirmation fee (until the blockchain got congested)
- Increasing Bitcoin value do to popular demand and supply
- Easy of access: Bitcoin is relatively simple to use to send and receive transactions.
- The growth of businesses accepting bitcoin is high.
- High Security!

We should see bitcoin's popularity increase rapidly over the next few years as a result of many people realising its advantages.

I've read somewhere this topic in the forum, repeating it is meaningless, suggesting the article should be moderated
Advantages of Bitcoin:
- Easy trading only with the internet
- Use everywhere
- absolute security
- anonymous transactions
- not robbed or lost

Which world do you live in? Cause multiple currencies have come and gone but none are like Bitcoins, they are simply the best. Look at one coin gone scam coin, then ethereum was said to undermine Bitcoins what happened, these are alts for a matter and that's why they never succeed, Bitcoin is superior all thanks to satoshi's vision and people have hopelessly tried to copy it but they have failed and that's what going to happen, my suggestion just stick to Bitcoins you will be safe for goodm

Bitcoin started from zero where a lot of people underestimate it, it can become at peak because bitcoin is the first digital currency and it has been used by a lot of peole in this world, the reason why it stay at the top is because it has been through a lot of things but able to survive and many people believe in bitcoin and believe bitcoin can give them a better future

Actually there are many coins who have more than the value of bitcoin. There are coins who have 3 btc in value or more but all of them are not solid and have started to crash. I remember yes coins, it has a huge value before but right now it fell to 1 satoshi. We have bitok coins who have 3 btc in value but right now its below 2k satoshi. Ethereum had set its value on 0.13 btc value but it fell down and has never increased back until now. Bitcoin cannot be beaten right now, it is very strong, as strong as a steel. There is no doubt that no coins can compete with bitcoin, I even remember zcash who have made a huge superhype and have sold their coin at 200 btc before it fell to 10 btc until it fell down. As such even very promising coins cannot compete with bitcoins. The coins to compete with bitcoin is not yet made.

Bitcon is superior in a couple of ways, just to name a few:

Merchants cannot charge extra fees on anything without being noticed. They must talk with the consumer before adding any charges.

And due to the fact that personal information is kept hidden from prying eyes, Bitcoin protects against identity theft.

There is a large number of Bitcoin users around the world. you accept it as a payment platform. and I think about cryptocurrency, Bitcoin is at the top of the list. a currency needs a lot of work and programming to assert itself. and bitcoin is the perfect example of it.

Because bitcoin is the pioneer of cryptocurrencies, market value of any currency depends upon its usage in the market. At the beginning when there wasn't any other cryptocurrency, bitcoin was present and have users which kept on increasing with time.

Bitcoin is superior in price only because its the first cryptocurrency that was created, so people trust it and invest in it more and thus it's more popular. Technology wise BTC is not superior, not anymore, ETH and several other coins have better technology but not enough popularity like BTC to succeed

bitcoin is superior, considering the number of people that are using it and its value, all cryptocurrencies can also be converted to bitcoin making it more flexible and bitcoin as well can be exchange to fiat money. i think bitcoin is like the dollar, that everyone uses for exchange, however bitcoins online transactions are much faster than that of fiat, since there are a lot of parties that wants to get hold of your money, for bitcoin, its a party system, you give me bitcoin or i'll give you bitcoin, no need for other persons to be involved.

There are other crypto currencies but bitcoin remains at the top simply because it was the first. So many people already started with bitcoin and they're continually using it. Plus the price of bitcoin is higher than the other currencies.

I think ETH, LTC and DASH have great value and expected to be more valuable soon, but i believe Bitcoin will still as first crypto currency because its having till now the biggest community dealing with it, and also its price is rising fast.

There is an easy explanation why Bitcoin is still at the top

Obviously, Bitcoin is at the top not because of its technical superiority since there is none. Even Litecoin which for so many years had been no more than a Bitcoin copycat is now superior to Bitcoin on purely technical ground. Bitcoin is just good enough to enjoy being the first mover for so long. But it doesn't of course mean that it is set to remain the top currency for good. Its popularity and success basically comes down to two simple things. First, it shows more profitability over long terms in comparison with all other cryptocoins out there. And, second, even when it goes down, it doesn't go down as much as other coins. In a nutshell, if some coin is able to show higher profitability over longer terms, it will eventually replace Bitcoin

Because if it wasn't because of bitcoin then all of these cryptocurrencies won't be around too. No one can surpass bitcoin's success even if there will be a good altcoin bitcoin will remain number one now and in the future.

The superiority of Bitcoin is the freedom to trade the world and privacy. Thanks to bitcoin, we do not need to pass bank when dealing.

You forgot that crypto-currencies didn't appear all at once. Bitcoin was the first in 2008 year and other crypto is a clear commercial project based on bitcoin with the main target to make it's creator rich. For example second currency that costs a lot is Etherum which appeared only in 2014 year.
Bitcoin's value is limited by 21 milions and day by day this number get shorter, because of many bitcoin stay forgotten and simply lost from different factors. People want to own bitcoin due to it's big price and the demand is growing like a crazy. I doubt that any other crypto will be able to reach such results soon and replace bitcoin but I don't want to refuse this idea totally.

So, if in future have more people want buy Bitcoin, but the coin supply can't provide more than 1 billion user (example), need have an altcoin replace it, and in current we see Ethereum is best choice after Bitcoin

I think one of the reasons why altcoins was created was because they wanted to copy the same idea they had with bitcoin and probably some are trying to see if their coin can overcome the power of bitcoin, I mean they were not created at the same time with bitcoin and as you can see up until now they are creating more new coins and tokens.

Bitcoin superiority will be proven once again after this drama is over. Because the price can really soar after Aug 1. It seems that people are really optimistic about it and I think this is the consensus here in our forum.

The cycle is always like this not only in bitcoin but other industries as well. When your product in on top. Companies will always find a way to challenge and put you down. Just like bitcoin, altcoins put up a challenge but unfortunately, they will not succeed.

Ethereum is not even a currency in its own right

On the other hand, I basically agree that firmly capping the number of coins to enter circulation is not a good idea if we actually intend to use it as a means of payment (i.e. as a currency). It is now clear that the monetary supply (i.e. the amount of coins in active circulation) should be flexible and depend on the needs of the economy. That is, when the economy expands more coins are required. Conversely, if the economy shrinks, the monetary supply should deflate accordingly. No preset algo can do this automatically. Credit money shines in this department and has no rival (whether anyone likes it or not)

Bitcoin has the largest market cap and its going to be really really difficult for any cryptocurrency to become that big anytime soon.

Bitcoin is only the most popular of the cryptocurrencies. In terms of utility there are much better cryptocurrencies. There are so, so many digital coins which are undervalued-- IOTA, Golem,Eos, etc.

You mean in status and demands, still bitcoin is ranking number 1 even though ETH and litecoins tried to surpass bitcoin?
Yes it is number one in whole markets even market is once again surprised after watching the value of bitcoin in high rate. So yes it is still the number 1 currency as you said. Nobody can take over on bitcoin because it has value more than everyone. While ETH and litecoin is baby in front of bitcoin so we should not consider that as a good currency toward bitcoin.
