Title: So far Voting % result shows that there is no bitcoin split.
Post by: BINAYKR on July 23, 2017, 01:49:02 PM
Hi

So far Voting % result shows that there is no split in bitcoin chain i.e. there is no other type of bitcoin.

Am I right?

From what I understood we are not safe to see a chain split https://themerkle.com/bitcoin-may-still-see-a-blockchain-split-on-august-1st/
You're more confused, right? Don't worry because you are not alone in the confusion

No.  A split is happening on August 1.

There will probably be an split (or copy...) with a Chinese coin called BTCC (bitcoin cash) but it should not mean anything.

They wil use a copy of the current bitcoin blockchain and alter the rules a bit and they call it bitcoin cash. They wil mine their own copy further.
This will not influence the real bitcoin blockchain.

In my opinion they are just hoping that al the uncertainty about this wil give them a lot of attention.

In addition to the aforementioned BCC split, there's also the chance of a split in November (?), between regular Segwit and Segwitx2.

I think you are right, because Bitcoin is the Only currency that people need for finance their online business, Plus it has a high exchange measure

Anyone can create a spinoff altcoin at any time, and people have in the past, e.g. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1883902.0

That via is maybe create another one isn't very interesting...

This one is a bit different and causing some more problems for many people/services.
1. It gets much more attention in the community.
2. It would get at least some mining support what is removed from Bitcoin.
3. The more fighting is going on in the community about the scaling, the more traction it would get.
4. Most value it will gain on the cost of Bitcoin.

I don't like how it is done but its clearly not the same as some spinoff alts in the past.

Saying "isn't very interesting" is wrong.
And its not maybe. They do it.

"Am I right?"

Nope. So far all polling has leaned in strong favor of there being a split come August 1st.

While a split may happen chances are very high that it won't happen. BIP 91 has locked in majority of the miners and if a chain split happens the new coin  won't last very long.

They already have the name of the coin that will split on August 1 and it is actually already traded. Now, am certain that it has only negligible effect on the real Bitcoin and this thing will not have any bearing on the value of Bitcoin. BitcoinCash can be dumped anytime they showed in the wallets of many Bitcoin holders.

So which of the segwit are we experiencing this week or so? Regular segwit or segwit 2x ? I am  kinda contused

Segwit and Segwit2x are not two distinct things. Segwit2x is an extension of Segwit, so when Segwit activates, so will part of Segwit2x. Segwit2x contains additional things on top of Segwit but those will activate later.

Currently Segwit is not activated yet.

The forum news says we can continue to make our transaction as normal, that further information will come up as time goes on. But some sites are talking about Bitcoin cash.
Well as time goes everything will be made clearer.

I thought the voting was saying there would be a split...?

Bitcoin Cash is essentially a clone of Bitcoin. All the transactions are the same, up to July 31. Some people may call it as an altcoin. But I would call Bitcoin Cash as a split, from the original Bitcoin.

Currently Segwit is not activated yet.

To further clarify (or confuse): The Segwit2x extension of regular Segwit is incompatible with regular Segwit (the one being activated now). That's the reason behind the probable split into a Segwit chain and a Segwit2x chain. If Segwit2x activates, regular Segwit nodes will discard Segwit2x blocks due to their blocksize. Segwit2x nodes will have to discard regular Segwit transactions as part of their replay protection.

Indeed, this can be adding more confusion for people (just like me) who seem could not really fathom all the technical details on cryptocurrency. All I am wishing is that soon Bitcoin should be safe and sound after all these talks of dizzying splits and forks.

Will this be the one scheduled on November of this year? Well, if that will lead me to have some free coin in my wallet, then let it be as I am so willing to accept free money anytime. We can all sell the new coin into Bitcoin once it is already possible and in a way help Bitcoin remain valuable.

Bitcoin is safe and sound, it's only the price that could fluctuate :)

Yep, that's the split that is scheduled for October / November, however I'm not sure whether they'll stick to that deadline. BCH was also rescheduled on short notice, I wouldn't be surprised if something similar happened to 2x. Just keep track of Bitcointalk / Reddit as the fork date approaches and you should be fine.
