Title: this perth mint bar gold is fake or authentic
Post by: newcasinobitcoin on July 23, 2017, 04:01:19 PM
hi,

I bought a perth mint 100gr bar gold and here is the photo of the bar received

Unfortunately it would seem that the serial would show that it is a fake

https://i.hizliresim.com/okNz82.png

Someone who if known could tell me if it looks like a fake?

Found this on another forum

Authentic 1 ounce Perth Mint gold bars in black/charcoal assay card. The zero in serial # has 3 dots, top and bottom.

Authentic 3 dots https://www.coincommunity.com/forum/uploaded/goldflake/20160916_s-l1600-_29__opt.jpg (https://www.coincommunity.com/forum/uploaded/goldflake/20160916_s-l1600-_29__opt.jpg)

FAKE has 2 dots https://www.coincommunity.com/forum/uploaded/goldflake/20160916_ntdnmee_opt-_1_.jpg (https://www.coincommunity.com/forum/uploaded/goldflake/20160916_ntdnmee_opt-_1_.jpg)

There are fake Perth Mint bars in circulation, packaging varies over time so not a strong indicator.

The only way to be sure is to get it XRF checked at a jewllers/bullion dealer.  They can do this through the packaging so no issues there.

I would recommend getting it checked at a jeweler or a bullion like the other poster said. It might be easier than having people on the internet identify it. Doing it in person will cost you nothing to almost nothing too!

Hello,

You have the brain to acquire 100 g. gold bar, but don't have to professional test-check at professional jewllers/bullion dealer. Doesn't look so good.

Looking at the front pic the print quality on "The Perth Mint Australia" and the company logo looks off to me.

If you didnt source that bar from a reputable supplier and at a bargain price I would be very worried right now.

Basic tests = weight it then check bar dimensions against a real bar :    47.60 x 27.60

Perth and PAMP bars are probably the most counterfeited bars.  Like everyone else said, find a local shop that can test it for you.

If it came from a dealer why is the packaging damaged?

It was just a plastic protection that I removed and then handed

@SolarSilver : He also bought from bitgild bar with two dots. But he did not seem too worried (although he did not have to test and approve his bar)

There is no reason to be rude, if you look at his posting history, he stated he will get it checked later this week

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=301242.msg20335226#msg20335226

At least he is honest about his doubts and asking for help. How have you contributed to this discussion?

As I stated in the other thread:

Everything Bitgild ships comes from the same company in Frankfurt: Coininvest or European Precious Metal Trading GmbH (look at the UPS label of your shipment and the packing list). Both are listed as official reseller for Perth Mint at

http://www.perthmintbullion.com/About-The-Perth-Mint/Our-Distributors/Distributors-Europe.aspx (http://www.perthmintbullion.com/About-The-Perth-Mint/Our-Distributors/Distributors-Europe.aspx)

If you order from Bitgild or Bitcoincommodities, it is EPMT that does the dropshipping

Are you suspecting you got a fake from EPMT?

I have not had my samples tested or approved (I never doubted them), but if you have a suspicion, can you get your two units tested and approved?

So the source looks reputable to me, but please do have the bar checked. I will take some of my bars (look at my above picture for different versions) and have them checked but I only have time mid August

Was that meant to say handled? As in, you handled the gold bar? Nothing wrong with that necessarily, but some people will only buy pristine bars.

I don't think it is "just a plastic protection", right on the front it says "tamper-evident case" which is meant to give anyone that you pass it on to in future a little more confidence in buying it.

How much did you pay for this gold bar, and when, is probably the best question to ask right now?

I can't talk for what he did, but in general the gold bars from Perth Mint (and Rand Refinery) come in a tamper proof case and that case has little plastic covers like those you find on expensive electronics (e.g. the LCD screen of a radio). Sometimes they have been removed before shipping but sometimes the customer has to remove it. You can keep it on but as you see on the picture, they come loose very easily by just holding it in your hands.

You can see it too in my picture he posted, I keep the plastics on, but they start to bubble

Given the number of fakes floating on the secondary market and not to mention the fakes that can so easily be bought on AliExpress I would stay very far away from purchasing gold from an unauthorised supplier. Better safe than sorry. It's not worth saving a small amount when the potential risk is so high.

True, but EPMT is not an unauthorised supplier. If he got a fake one through them, it would be big news

I come back from jewelry and it smells bad

He watched the bar gold
He checked the weight
He did the nitric acid test

Everything was ok but

Then he did another test in a special apparatus and there he told me that there was something strange and to know it was necessary to cut the gold

I said no and went out of the shop to avoid trouble (he started to ask me id)

I hesitate to go to another jewelry store to double check

I just read down through the thread and while its interesting its also
worrying. I have heard that there is a lot of FAKE gold and silver coins
and bars coming out of China at the moment and not just for new designs
but also for older designs.

I know there are a lot of tests that can be done for Silver but im not aware
of them for Gold. Obviously if this is a fake bar its of very high standard to
pass the jewelers tests apart from 1?

I wonder what that test with the apparatus was?

this is worrying for you, I feel for you  :o

Just make it clear to whoever you go to that you purchased it, and you have doubts about its authenticity and that you are not interested in selling it. This will protect you from any kind of legal troubles, but they might charge you a small fee to test it.

Find someone with a sigma analytics tester.  They will be able to test its authenticity through the assay.
