Title: New Mining Software Guide (work in progress)
Post by: miningdude on May 13, 2013, 08:56:16 PM
Hey folks! Here's a Bitcoin Mining Software Guide (http://www.coinminingrigs.com/litecoin-bitcoin-mining-software/) I wrote up today. It's a work in progress, but goes beyond just the software and explains some of the other variables involved in getting the best performance from GPU based bitcoin mining. I basically broke down the mining rig setup into 3 layers: hardware, software and environmental variables (cooling, etc). I'm looking for feedback, so I can improve the article and learn from you all. Thanks!

hey there, i just came across your article.

Good stuff, maybe a little hard to find the info you need.
I would do something like:

1. Bitcoin
A. Hardware
B. Software (Cgminer/Settings, max perf)
C. Temps and other stuff

2. Litecoin
A. ...
B. ...
C. ...

I`m not sure... My cgminer for BTC did not start with these settings (well it did but wacky)
cgminer -o stratum+tcp://mint.bitminter.com:3333 -u User_worker -p xxx --gpu-fan 55,55,60 -I 18 -w 256 -g 1

I got this:

Then i tried 9 and it worked.. it even works with your stated 14 but i`m getting way less MH then i got while mining LTC.

Ex.:

LTC 3x6970 = 1415 KH
BTC 3x6970 = 1181 MH

System is very responsive so i`m guessing the cards are not maxed out

Yes. There's a lot of info on one page :)
About specific card settings; I'd recommend looking them up on the github page comparing cards and settings.
