Title: Coindesk hacked?
Post by: nielsg on July 26, 2017, 07:43:39 PM
I went to www.coindesk.com and got prompted to finish a Wordpress site install...

Something seems wrong with that to me.

Yep looks like you're right, doesn't necessarily mean hacked though. Maybe the website is in some in between stage of maintenance.

Got it, it might not be hacked, maybe crashed and lost configuration somehow. But FUBAR'D nonetheless.

Coindesk works just perfect, it might be an ad or something similar that was "started" by an adware or any other software in your PC which is a common thing.
I use adblock/ublock to block most of the ads that are shown in the website even though it can't block all of them.
Stay safe.

I get a wordpress site as well. My cache is cleared, so this is definitely a live version of coindesk. It looks like some sort of misconfiguration with WordPress.

It's working here. Maybe it's local DNS propagation problem, specific ISP issue or something else.

Not so sure, I have loads of anonymity things, Ghostery, Ad-Block, Anti-Adblock, and the like...

Simply going to www.coindesk.com, redirects to https://www.coindesk.com/wp-admin/install.php which is the root install link for Wordpress. I'll try another PC, or get on a different VPN. Maybe you're right, or have a cached version, but coindesk is on my list of tabs I open every time I open my browser, to check on stories and bitcoin price etc, so caught me off guard when I hit refresh. I saw the story on BTC-E on CryptoBlog, so jumped over to coindesk.

Maybe I'm doing something wrong. I'll double check.

Heck, maybe it's solved already...

Maybe just head on their twitter page for update/s.

CoinDesk
"We are aware of website issues with http://CoinDesk.com . We’re working to restore service and will be publishing on Twitter and Facebook"

Maybe a server update?

EDIT thanks harizen, I will wait until it's back online.

The site is working now as normal, may be there was a server glitch or an update or may be the server went down altogether and may be so is the reason you saw the prompted words, they have not written any official note regarding to what happened to the site but it looks like they have changed the way how the site looks.

website fixed. returned to normal coindesk. might have been some sort of maintenance/new feature...
