Title: Re: Blockchain.info Wallet is okay for upcoimg fork?
Post by: ralle14 on July 28, 2017, 08:48:38 AM
Hello,
can anyone put some light on my queries, really not sure what is coming up
some people are saying we will have two different bitcoin, use paper wallet, have private key.

i use Blockchain.info Wallet is it compatible ? if not what should i use and what should i do. Please do guide me.

Thank you so much in advance!
If you're using their hd wallets you need to send those coins to another address because you can't export the private keys but if you're using an imported address from blockchain.info(from the legacy version) then you could export those keys and move it to electrum or other wallet depending on which one your comfortable using.

Here's a good post from theymos, to give you an idea / information about the possible Split https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2012799.0
I'm not using blockchain.info. What's important is to use a wallet where you can export the private keys, it's either desktop, mobile or a hardware wallet. I personally use a desktop wallet (Electrum specifically), though there are many options to choose from. There's also a list of wallets given by theymos on the link above, better to check it out.

Another good source as well :

Thank you so much. Yes turns out Electrum is best possible solution as Core is like huge dump of file which is impossible to get in short time.
Yes electrum is best choice, also jaxx can work as alternative to electrum and it also supports multiple coins along with bitcoin.

Any wallets that gives you private key of your addresses are safe to store bitcoin during network split.

The important thing is, you just need and hold the private key and if you use blockchain.info also I think it's good enough.

Yes, everybody was saying that online wallets or a wallet without a private key is not the most safe place for the fork. I also become to worry, but in the end stayed everything on it's place (I use online wallet), anyway I haven't big money there. Now I see that money on it's place and nothing scary happened. But yes, I will not get this BBC, about which everybody is talking now, as I understood it was possible to get it free only in some wallets, don't know in which exactly.
