North Korea missile test shows it could reach New York, say experts

The missile launch was meant as a "stern warning" for the United States, North Korea's state news agency said. The ICBM, which aimed for "maximum distance", flew for 47 minutes and 12 seconds while travelling 998km and reaching a maximum altitude of 3,724.9km, the North said.

The test was ordered by the North's leader, Kim Jong Un, who was cited as saying that the launch reaffirmed the reliability of the country's ICBM system and an ability to fire at "random regions and locations at random times" with the "entire" US mainland now within range. Kim said the launch sent a "serious warning" to the United States, which has been "meaninglessly blowing its trumpet" with threats of war and stronger sanctions, the news agency said.

The launch on Friday from Chagang province came less than a month after Pyongyang claimed to have tested its first ICBM. US officials told NBC the missile had flown for about 1,000km and had landed within Japan's exclusive economic zone. "We assess that this missile was an intercontinental ballistic missile, as had been expected", Pentagon spokesman Jeff Davis said in a statement. "The missile was launched from Mupyong-ni and traveled about 1,000km before splashing down in the Sea of Japan. We are working with our interagency partners on a more detailed assessment", he said. >>

The Americans have also confirmed that if the missile is launched from the eastern-most city of the DPRK (Rason, on the Russian-DPRK border), then it may be able to hit New York. So that means that all of US is under the range of the North Korean missiles now.

And what is the US president going to do?  North Korea is right - they are just blowing their trumpet.

Even if, theoretically, North Korean missiles can reach U.S. territory, this does not mean that the Americans will allow them to do this. Modern missile technology can easily deal with obsolete Korean missiles. I think it's more horror stories than reality.

My main concern is if Kim got crazy enough to make good his threats. That would be disastrous even if the missile fail to hit US targets. That could basically be what would spark an actual war between America and China. Obviously, America would hit back at NoKor and China, even though they've denounced the missile tests before, will have no choice but to prop up the regime of their buffer state.

As a citizen of a country with a mutual defense treaty with the US, I fear that even a failed attack would trigger the agreement and I could end up drafted for another country's war.

I think its high time that the US Military intervene in North Korea, Kim Jong Un is clearly out of his minds. I am not always in support of the USA toppling governments but  i am fully in support of this, He should be eliminated before he goes crazy one day and launches a nuclear warhead in the USA.
