Fork Watch: Take Extra Precaution When Trying to Access Post Fork Tokens

Bitcoin holders should be aware that during and after a fork people can make mistakes when differentiating between the two chains. Alongside the confusion, there’s also a chance that malicious actors posing to be trustworthy may promise people help with access to ‘Bitcoin Cash’ tokens – and steal people’s private keys. The risk of losing bitcoin to errors such as these will be heightened during and after a network fork.

The best thing to do is wait till the confusion settles. If there indeed are problems with the replay protection, they will surface immediately after the hard fork. Patience is the key here.

That's what most of the wallets are going to do. They have planned to credit users with bcc once all uncertainty settles which could take 10-12 days. So if someone new to all this and unable to make up with private keys scenario, he should better hold btc in web wallet supporting both coins. In this way, he can safely have both coins without falling for phishing or stolen btc.

I'm doing what will probably be my last transaction early tomorrow morning, before just waiting it out for a week or so before trying to do anything. I expect one of our friendly neighbourhood mods here, if not theymos, will also publish a guide for exactly this, as mentioned in previous posts. I advice anyone who's unsure (as I am) to do just that. Wait it out.

There could be a serious threat of phishing sites which can stole people's private keys by making some fake wallet apps or websites. Users need to be extra cautious with their private keys atleast for a week after fork and should only trust older and established wallet for accessing BCC. Most of the newbie fall for such things as all of the holders would be rushing to sell BCC before dump happens for availing the maximum profit.

This article need to be promoted more for the safety of the Bitcoin users.

We should really be careful and use much of our common sense when dealing with Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash come August 1 and days after the said date. Of course, it can be expected that there would be people who like to take advantage of the situation by offering something in disguise.

I will not be touching my wallet and my account in Bittrex when August 1 will arrive and will be watching for news and developments next week to make sure that I will not be making any untoward mistakes which can irreversible actually.
