Title: Personal website to track altcoin profits - of use to anyone as a free site?
Post by: zillathegreat on July 31, 2017, 10:33:42 AM
Altcoin Tracker is now live and sign up's are available to all users. Feedback is appreciated

I've recently been working on a way of being able to track my trading profits (and losses...) in an easy, visible, instant and automatically updated maner. The project was successful and I am using it at the moment in a separate window to be made aware of any quick dumps or pumps that may be happening on coins I am watching or holding, or just to keep a general eye on 24+ coins on one page. I figured as it is 90% complete for my own personal useage I would share it and see if anyone else would be into it becoming a resource everyone can use.

So, a brief description-

When first loading the page you will presented with a blank canvas displaying only a container with a +.

https://i.imgur.com/shYz1qs.jpg https://i.imgur.com/3PAMk9D.jpg

You click to add an altcoin container and a blank altcoin container is added, prompting you to select a coin by clicking the dropdown/name (list updated every 5 minutes with new coins). Then you choose your altcoin, and all of the relevant data is pulled in via AJAX/PHP and populates the container.

You are now able to add your total coins. This will instantly update the $ price for this coin and the altcoin total $ on the top bar with a total.

https://i.imgur.com/y5BoL10.jpg

Then you add your buy price in BTC per coin. Again this will automatically calculate the percentage based on the current btc value of the coin.

You then simply click save and it is stored in the database to be pulled up every time you log in from now on. You can also remove altcoins you are no longer holding/interested in by clicking the red 'X' (your user data (coins held and at what cost) is still saved on the server, just not displayed until you next pull up the coin.)

More to come in the future

Looks impressive from the images and descriptions provided, but would like to see it in action on a LIVE site. What is your plan in future? Will you be selling this script or release it as opensource, free for all?

Thanks for the comments and taking the time to look through, I think I probably should have waited until my rep went up before posting so I was able to embed the images!

Anyway, the plan would be to keep it on my server simply because it would be a pain to set up the necessary cron jobs, databases and logins for most people. A user login is probably the most convenient way of handling it and I should hopefully have a demo version for multiple users I can send live for a few people to try soon™... I just need my host to install some additional scripts on the server first. This will be fine for general demo useage but if it's to become something permanent and open to the general public I'd need to get a crypto/security consultant/dev to run through everything and make sure that it is as secure as it can be. This is important given the nature of the data and how the emails used to sign up may or may not be linked to markets/wallets in some way or another.

If it is to happen, for the site to remain free I will probably have to put a small ~50px high ad space on the bottom, but not google ads. I will make it so users and interested parties are able to book the spot for a week or longer and promote the coin of their choosing or related service. This will be used to keep the server online and development going. It won't obstruct anything and will only ever be relevant to altcoin/trading.

I will get a demo video up later today, in the meantime would someone be kind enough to quote my post who is Jr rank or above and able to embed images?

Sounds good.
If you tie a crypto adres to a account and generate a unique url for that adres, your pretty safe. maybe with a password and 2way auth option.

Thats a good idea, email isn't really all that necessary for a site like this. I'll have to think about the long term implications.

Meanwhile...

Altcoin Tracker is taking alpha testers now. Please reply to book a slot

In this early beta form the site is running best at the a resolution of 1920x1080, any smaller res's (mobiles, tablets) will cause header display issues, but the actual main content should be just fine. There may be cross browser inconsistencies (and possibly larger issues) but I am not in the visual stage yet so it is running off of old code only designed for myself and my setup. Chrome, 1920x1080 will give optimum results.

Hi all, forgive my newbie status. I've been a lurker for a while but only recently signed up, hence the lack of images embedded in the post as I don't have the rank to do it yet...  ::)

I have plans on what I would like to do in the future with this (should it garner any interest or not) but for me to release this into the public domain it would require some serious security well beyond its current implementation and my knowledge. If the interest is there I can look into hiring and making this a multi user site with extremely strong security that will remain free forever.

Either way, I had fun making this and use it daily :D

i quoted it for you. i am willing to be an alpha tester for this since i am an active altcoin trader. i will see how this can help me. i will check out you website now. thanks

How it is different to blockfolio?

In essence I suppose it isn't all that different in its current form. Its main difference is that this is a web "app" (really just a website) that can be used on mobile and desktop, the desktop and tablet screen sizes allowing 6 to 24 altcoins at once with a static btc ticker.

It's early days still but this project can absolutely distinguish itself from blockfolio given enough time and support, until then i'd appreciate all the users I can get for further testing.
