People got tired of wasting their hashing power on scamcoins? -MarkM- Litecoin could have easily been seen as a scamcoin when it came out and probably was by a few people. It's obviously solidified itself in the cryptocurrency world as an accepted coin though, so it'll only ever increase in popularity most likely - look at what happened to bitcoin? Fair few people hashing that out i hear.
