Title: Yacoin questions?
Post by: Monetizer on May 15, 2013, 07:32:15 AM
So I started mining YaCoin recently and I was wondering, does it damage my cpu like cpu bitcoin mining can if I leave it on for say 8 hours? Also is it usual to get results (hash per sec) from 40 000 to 0 and 8 000? Also finnaly is it worth solo mining on 1-2 i3's?

1. well if it heats up your CPU way up it is damaging your CPUs..

2. yes, it is possible for erratic hashes based on the amount of work your miner is handling

3. nope not feasible to solo mine now imho ...

For No.1 is there an easy way to keep it cool (Using a laptop)
Also what is a good pool to use?

limit the number of threads you are going to use.

for the pool you can use this

or this

You can also go to power options in windows 7/8 (power options -> [...] change power plan) and set the max CPU power (or however that is called) to 70%. This limits the max freq of your CPU and lowers the max voltage, greatly reducing heat.

Regarding mining, there is also a p2pool online http://pool.bitcn.org:8336/static/ (http://pool.bitcn.org:8336/static/).

As someone posted, limit threads (-t). Easy way: Subtract one from how many cores you have, all i3's that I know of have 2 cores, so you can do -t 1, but your hashrate will be horrible. Better to get a temperature tracker like RealTemp  (http://www.techpowerup.com/realtemp/)or SpeedFan  (http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php)  and play around with -t. I can do -t 10 on a quad core and keep temps low with good circulation, just as long as temps are down, you're fine.
