Title: Can someone explain this?
Post by: sunsilk on August 02, 2017, 03:52:42 AM
I was just a new electrum user because of this fork and I decided to choose electrum.

And after sending most of my funds on my electrum wallet, I want to transfer it to an exchange.

So here's the scenario,

I only sent to only one wallet but the explorer says I sent it to two addresses. And the amount I sent is almost 1 BTC then to the other wallet(I don't know who owns it or where it did came from) sent almost the same amount automatically too.

The output shows 2 BTC even I only sent 1 BTC.

When logging in to my electrum wallet when seeing the "history" it shows right balance but upon clicking "addresses" it shows lower amount of balance.

My concern is that why it shows two wallets even if I only sent to only one and the amount? Is this normal? For what why it shows automatically that there's another wallet that I sent which is I didn't.

You're confusing wallets and addresses... and it sounds like you're not familiar with change addresses: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Change

I'd also recommend this: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Coin_analogy - It helps explain why change is created and why inputs are used the way they are... and how outputs are created.

As for your transaction, if you can post the Transaction ID, it would be easier to tell exactly what has happened, but I'm guessing you have simply sent the amount you wanted to the Exchange and the "change" has been returned to a change address in your wallet.

If you look on the "Addresses" tab, you should be able to see the 2nd "unknown" address... (you may need to expand the "Used" and/or "Change" sections)

Oh that's great thanks for the help I was really confuse on how to get these information.

I have an idea now on how these outputs are created and why there's a 'change' that I used to think of what really is.

Thanks for help HCP, I appreciate it I'll lock the thread now.
