Honestly, both Windows, as well as Linux, are cool.

Choose the OS according to your preferences (Maintenance, usability)

Win+CGMiner, Linux+CGMiner, etc can be a good combo.

I've mined for Gentoo/Ubuntu/Win7/Win8, and

it's more about the stability of the miner program or drivers than the OS.

If you are used to working in windows chose windows. If you used linux chose linux simple as that. Anyways some pros and cons. Use Linux if you want more stable system (crashes, fucking windows updates etc.. ) or if you are running more than 6 GPUs, use Windows if you want ease of use, also it's much easier to track and fix your miner from remote with Windows.

On linux you get stability an windows virus immunity.
You can run server and go to somewhere for 1 month, and your server can still works,

For remote settings i use Teamviewer 12.  (change coin etc)

BAT files for windows (on CLaymore) has a same structure for Linux.
just simple change letters size and remove .exe from .bat files and rename it to .sh  (EthDcrMiner64.exe to  ./ethdcrminer64 )
on other miners having version linux i think the same.

Im trying many OS but i use just Linux Mint with preinstalled Nvidia driver to mining
https://rutracker.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5423243
i created it for me, but you can reset language to english and can use it.
Overclock enabled for only first card by default.  Not recommend use it
exist a way to overclock all cards by one command. but i still think overclock is a better way to destroy your cards.
or get a hanged server.  Cards are too exprensive in this time.

On linux i can copy  miner folders from machine to machine (of my friend-miner )
without any changes and it will always work

I use one videocard in home,  my friend has a farm with a 5 x gtx 1060 .
one month work without problems.

Not sure there really is a difference to the mining process in regards to what OS it uses. I would think whatever OS can run on the smallest hardware specs to cut down on cost of equipment and power consumption.

Win10 pro for ease of use if you have 8 or less GPU miners. Win10 Pro licences are on ebay for less than 10$ each, from scrap computers. Guy sold 1000 of them @ $3,5 in less than 24h :D I got a bunch.

Windows 10 is unfree and contain a lot of spying software includes
screenshot every N minutes and keylogger, and who knows what includes in closed source codes of this OS.
Ok you can remove parts of this data, but for many times it works? Next update or patch can reset settings data emailing to microsoft servers.

I think using TrojanOS 10 from Microsoft is simpliest way but it unsafe for server
It can be result as deanonymization as bitcoin or altcoin wallet ID.

When you pay for windows - Your pay for YOUR UNSAFE ,

Best OS for mining is windows 7 x64. With everybody else we always had some problems or something was missing.
Especialy windows 7 is very stable and easy to use. Linux is very good but to much problems when need to do undervolt etc...

All will yield the same performance assuming the same hardware condition.
Linux is more reliable, however GPU controls are very limited most of the time, sometimes you have to make changes by flashing the BIOS, whereas in Windows you'd use something like MSI Afterburner.

The OS doesn't make any difference in the mining process.
If you're like me, a person who's used Windows for all his life, then totally go for it. (I suggest windows 10 pro or at least that's what works fine for me.)

If you're a linux user or a guy who likes it (you know used to its codes and stuff.... ps: to me sudo apt is hell a lot of work to me lol ) then absolutely go for it.
There's of course ways to remotely connect to both and do the exact tasks on both but in different ways.

Mining farms are typically into Linux - it's free, stable, clean, and easy to manage on larger scale.
I'm not saying Windows can't be stable, I'm just not recommending it.

We at minerstat do however offer both:
Windows mining (https://minerstat.com/software/windows)
mining OS (https://minerstat.com/software/mining-os)

And also ASIC monitoring (https://minerstat.com/software/asic)

I'mining on windows almost 2 years and till today i havent a single problem. Have 2 rigs x 6 580 and haven't single problem. Bought aliexpress watchdogs and working great. Installed windows 7 64x, changed custom bios in cards. No problems with temperatures mining about 29/30 per a card. Disabled windows updates, 2 psu for 1 rig. (servers dell psu modified) electricity around 2KW per hour. And those days im mining about 0.74 eth/month. If someone need help about rigs im can manage something.

You mentioned 6 cards on your rigs with Win 7 x64.

Were you not able to get more than 6 cards working on it?

Just wondering of you attempted 8 cards with Win 7.

Thanks

Too expensive to run a farm on Windows. Expensive in money and time.
Just to start with Windows licences.  ::)

Hive OS super stable, easy to manage on a larger scale, and has a lot of cool features which is constantly updating and adding new ones.
It's cool that they added RXboot  feature for RX 400/500 series cards.

I have no idea about mining on Mac ... I am using HiveOS on my mining rig and I'm very happy with. Usage is very simple with it's web based dashboard.
