Title: ICO trackers/directories
Post by: anglais on August 04, 2017, 01:19:09 PM
First time poster, short time trader.

I was wondering whether the ICO tracker websites like https://icotracker.net/ get coins/bounties in exchange for promoting ICOs?

Or just flat fee advertising costs?

How can we know that the tracker sites are promoting things fairly?

Comments from ICO participants and holders alike would be welcomed!

They are probably profiting from the referral payment that some ICOs have. They advertise the ICO and receive something like 10% per investment that came from their website.

Or just flat fee advertising costs?
Taking a look at the site, I do not see any indication of them getting paid to promote a project. But they may not be disclosing if they are.

You can't. Do your research and don't fall for scams.

(p.s: 80% of ICOs are scam)

Thanks for your feedback TryNinja. Do most ICOs have referral payments or only a few?

I'm sure that they probably do get some form of compensation for advertising the ICO's. That said, does that really matter? When it comes to ICO's, you should be doing the legwork/research prior to investing. Meaning from multiple sources - Reddit has been good for me. If nothing else, its probably fair to say it is unbiased.

I personally use https://www.icoalert.com/ to see upcoming ICO's, hotlink to whitepapers/website, then I start my research.

As a side note - I did not look at the website you linked.

Are there any ICOs worth looking at?

Well, my knowledge is limited, but I can share what I got into.

I purchased Obsidian, because I like their team, and they already have a working app. It is still in its ICO, and I have been buying up SIA Coin. They too have a working hosting platform in place. In respect to SIA, I both mine it, and have been buying it.

I should stress that there are a lot of people more knowledgeable than I in this field, but I read a lot, especially when it comes to parting with my money, LOL.

The most important thing is to look at the background of their team members

I trust https://icotracker.net/
Sometimes the status of ICOs is changed to SCAM. So it is not reasonable that we think that icotracker promote scam ICOs because of  high fees.

We should consider that Icotracker is not responsible for any project which is scam. Icotracker just give us some informations about ICOs and we ourselves are responsible for our decisions.

Exactly! The responsibility is on us to do the leg work. If you're not willing to do it, you shouldn't be investing. Period.
My advice is to use any ICO tracker you wish, then do the work.

Does anybody know if there are any founders of ICO tracking websites on the forum?

CoinDesk is also providing information about upcoming ICOs or generally anything related with ICOs such as news article and statistics about past ICOs. In addition, the popular ICOs are listed on IcoStats.com (http://IcoStats.com) in the table where you can compare ICO price, actual price, profit since ICO and 24 hours ROI and much more.
