Title: BCC/BCH went missing
Post by: Prince8 on August 04, 2017, 07:54:51 PM
- Imported my private keys from exodus into electron cash mac os wallet and got my BCC/BCH
- Tried to transfer to an exchange and kept receiving a transfer error
- Gave up on the desktop wallet and downloaded electron cash on my android
- Imported private keys into electron cash app
- Balance shows 0 and no transaction history
- Checked on blockchair and the BCC/BCH is still in my public key
- Importing BCC/BCH private keys into electron cash mac os wallet also shows balance 0 and no transaction history

how to proceeed ?

You could try to import your key to another wallet.
On bitcoincash.org you could find useful infos about that.
About electron cash: Users warned to use it
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2059091.0

But I hope you will be lucky to get your BCH back.

Sorry, I don't use mac but know an android wallet which supports BCH. Coinomi: it seems possible to import private keys. Didn't try it but found this article. I use Coinomi and got my bch.
Here is an article for importing private key:
https://coinomi.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/29000009716-can-i-import-a-standard-private-key-to-coinomi-
But can't believe that there should be only one wallet for mac.

BTW: As I gained BCH on coinomi, I had to add the bitcash coin wallet and got step by step tutorial (very easy) by coinomi. But as I made a backup and restored, BCH disappeared. I had to do the procedure again and got BCH back.
Maybe it is the same on your wallet?

When i click to sweep on coinomi and add my private key, it says the wallet doest have any funds ("The private key does not contain any funds"). The funds still show on blockchair

Why don't you use paper wallets instead? You can make them in a few minutes and just print your wallet keys on a paper and the entire process will be under 30 minutes. I am planning on doing this tomorrow. Best of lucks getting your BCC!

That I correctly understand: Did you transfer your private key of BTC or BCH?

after i got my BCH in electron cash, i transfer BCH private keys to coinomi (and didnt work - "does not contain any funds")

No, try to transfer private key from bitcoin. In some wallets BCH disappear, when wallets are backuped and restored again. You must follow the steps once more as you did on gaining BCH from BTC. The important thing is your BTC history before split. Then transfer  private key where you had your BTC to coinomi. There you should be able to gain your bch.

Coinomi gave me the same message ("The private key does not contain any funds") when i tried importing my BTC private keys into my coinomi BCH wallet.

ps: i had imported/sweep my BTC private key from exodus to electron cash with success already, but since the transfer from electron cash to an exchange gave en error, i tried with electron cash android app and it starts not showing funds or anything
ps2: the funds are showing on my wallet on blockchair

Does it take time after you import your private keys into Electron Cash for the BCC to show? Mine shows 0?

In coinomi I must do a few steps, then they show up within seconds. I think it depends on history
But many users seem to have problems with electron cash..

Nope. Otherwise I'd try that too.

I have been watching this thread to see if you get your BCH back.
I am trying to get mine right now, so hopefully it works.
If I am successful then I will reply here with instructions about how to do it (using paper wallet).

Use 2 full nodes. 1 Bitcoin Core full node for your BTC, then 1 Bitcoin Cash full node (or BitcoinABC, whatever they are calling it) and then import your wallet. dat into the BitcoinABC folder. BitcoinABC has replay protection so you SHOULD be safe. Im too scared to lose my real BTC trying to get free money so I haven't done anything yet, but I plan in dumping all of it as soon as I learn for a fact how to do it the right safe way.

Maybe you could first transfer your bitcoin into another wallet. And then export the key. Why? Had an issue at my wallet. Gained BCH, then sent an amount of BTC to a service and made a backup of my wallet. Restored and had no BCH in my wallet. So I had to follow the step once more and full BCH appeared although I had less bitcoin in my wallet. But bitcoin history was mirrored by BCH and I got the amount that I had before fork.

Not that blockhair has a wallet, but when i check my wallet (you can check transactions or wallets) on blockchair, it still shows my funds there. So it havent been stolen or anything..

Yes, this makes perfect sense. You don't want to have the same public keys on both chains, so first of all, you should move your BTC coins that you want to keep in the BTC chain, into another address, then what you export is the empty wallet of the BTC chain, in the BCC chain, and when you do, it will not be empty in the BCC chain, you will still have the BCC there, but they will not be attached to the same public keys as in the BTC chain anymore because you moved them first. This is definitely worth it to be safer.

But the problem is that you will spend a lot of time in transacting and in fees.

I had four wallets and did the standard Electron procedure after moving my BTC to fresh electrum wallets.

Two wallets came up with accurate BCC balance. The other two - which were both over 1 year old, with longer transaction histories, came up with way less BCC than should be there. Many tx's missing - both red and black.

I have switched between ABC servers manually, but nothing helps.

Anyone had this happen?

The two "new" BTC versions of these wallets do  not have the tx history. Can I just create "version 3" of these wallets, and then import seeds from current version into Electron? Or should I move the BTC back into the original wallet and try again?

You can use this very handy website:

https://blockchair.com/

Are the missing tx's on both blockchains?

If you were controlling the private keys during the split, you should be able to access them on the BCash chain.

I can't help you specifically with Electrum because I only use full nodes, but at least with full nodes, the idea is to send the coins to another address, then import this empty wallet into the BCash client, then you should see the entire transaction history and the same amount of BTC you had but in BCH. It should be the same procedure with Electrum (I think, im not sure)

You should ask here for further help:

Thanks for your reply. Situation is now solved. I simply kept changing ABC servers manually and restarting both wallets. After about two hours they suddenly each updated to the correct tallies and tx's.

It was a bit scary, because about 30 percent of the tx's in the Electrum wallets were missing from the Electron wallets, in a fashion that reduced the wallet balances to nearly zero.
