How to claim my BCC in Electrum cash without giving my seed to electrum cash's owners?

You can import your electrum private keys on electron cash by clicking in wallet > private keys > sweep
I have some problems with it but it could work for you.

Don't do that.
No different between private keys and seeds. after importing, they have control of your coins.

If he type the seed too, so the risk is always there. Both are the only ways to have your bccs.

You should send your existing BTC coins to a new wallet with a new seed, then you can import your seed/private keys into a BCC wallet without risk of your BTC coins being affected.

Why exactly do you guys think that "they" (I assume you mean the ElectronCash developers) have control of your coins? There is quite a bit of FUD being spread around with regards to ElectronCash... so to clarify:

- Is it safe?
No one really knows for sure if it is Safe or Not... the code is open source which is a good start, as it is easy to see the changes that have been made since it was forked from Electrum codebase... so running from source or compiling yourself will let you run on code which is "known". The binaries are a slightly different story.

- But what about the binaries?
There is no proof that the binaries are "Bad"™... Granted, they are signed using basically an "anonymous" PGP signature, which doesn't really offer much in the way of "security" as the developer isn't putting their good name and reputation on the line but stating that the binaries are "safe"... If they turn out to be bad, the dev is free to just walk away and create another username/profile. However, this doesn't mean that they are malware or going to steal your stuff... To put this into perspective, the Electrum binaries being signed with ThomasV's PGP signature, basically only prove that it was ThomasV who signed the files... and they haven't been tampered with since he signed them. It doesn't prove that the files are good. It just means that ThomasV is saying "I vouch for these files" and you can prove they haven't been tampered with. So the only guarantee you have is ThomasV's word that they're OK.

- But I heard that it copies your Electrum Wallet??!? ZOMG HAX!!!!
The Electron Cash devs made, in my opinion, a fairly silly decision to copy the contents of the Electrum data directory (should it exist) over to the Electron Cash directory in an attempt to make using Electron Cash "easy" for people... you install Electron Cash, open it up and your wallets are already there to be used. I understand why they did this, I just don't think it was a good idea as it makes people paranoid and thanks to the internet gets blown up into "ZOMG eLecTrumCash is steeeeling my BitCoInZ!!!?1!!?!!!1?!?!" ::)

- Yeah, but that one guy had his coins stolen after using ElectronCash!!!!!!!!1!!!11?!!1!One!!!!Eleven!!!!!
Yeah, because he was an idiot and downloaded some dodgy hacked version from a scam clone site version of the ElectronCash website... just like a LOT of people have done previously with scam clone versions of Electrum (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2059967.msg20555125#msg20555125)... and scam clone versions of <insert bitcoin software/service here>.

- So, what do I do??? I'm so confused!!
Take the proper precautions. Make sure you only download from the official ElectronCash website. Run from source or compile your own copy.

Then, move your BTC to a completely new wallet with new seeds/addresses/keys... do this on a separate computer so you're completely separated from ElectronCash if you are super paranoid want an extra layer of security. Once all your BTC are in the new wallet... you can safely use your "OldSeed" with ElectronCash without fear of losing BTC... only your BCC is at risk... and given what has happened with the price since it started openly trading on Bittrex/ViaBTC... it's not really worth much anyway :P

Are there any plans by electrum to create a wallet for bitcoincash so those who haven't claimed their bitcoincash can do so?  And of course people can store bitcoincash there?  I know electrum also has a litecoin wallet etc.

Electrum-LTC is like Electron Cash. It is a "fork" of the original Electrum and it is NOT developed, maintained or endorsed by the Electrum developer (ThomasV).

Either use Electron Cash or one of the other bitcoin cash wallets listed at: https://www.bitcoincash.org/

Good evening,

I tried to claim my BCH/BCC from my blockchain.info wallet via Electron Cash. The blockchain.info wallet already existed long time before the 1st of August.

What did I do:
  • Exported the private key from my blockchain.info wallet.
  • Transferred all BTC to a different blockchain.info wallet.
  • Installed Electron Cash (http://www.electroncash.org/)
  • Created a new wallet: New -> Standard Wallet -> Use Public or Private Key Create keystore from keys: Here I put my private key.
Now I see an empty window with an balance of 0 BCC.

What did I do wrong?

Is there still a way to get the BCC?

It would seem that you have imported the incorrect private key. Are you sure your b.info wallet only had one private key in it? B.info wallets are usually Hierarchical Deterministic (HD) wallets... do you have the 12 word seed backup?

If you do, a better option would be to import the 12 word seed backup from your OLD b.info wallet into ElectronCash, as that would automatically generate ALL the private keys for that wallet. I believe you would need to use the "BIP39 Seed" option (click "Options" button when creating wallet with "I already have a seed")... and then use derivation path: m/44'/0'/0'

Yes, I had only one address in my wallet.

Yes, I have too. I created now the next wallet with my 12 words. But also this wallet is empty. I used also the derivation path and the BIP 37 Seed option.

Btw. how much time does it take until I can see the the credit? Maybe it takes some time.

You should see it instantly.

Have you tried to check the address that may contain the BCC in the Blockchair Explorer[1] to see if you really have coins in that wallet?

After making the search, you will probably see results for both Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash chain. Or you may also just go to:
https://blockchair.com/bitcoin-cash/address/<your BCC address>

Usually seconds...

If you show the addresses ("Wallet -> show addresses")... and then click on the "addresses" tab, do you see the same address as your address from b.info? If not, then something isn't quite right (either wrong key... or wrong derivation path)

When you say wallet is empty... is it showing transactions but has 0.00 balance? Or is it not showing anything at all ie. No transactions and 0.00 balance?

Hey, I´ve the same problem.
Transaction clear, ballance 0.00.
Wallet adress is checked, the same like b.info.

Probably because that private key only had 3.907 BCH. Unless you had all you coins in one address, one private key will NOT have all your BCH either.

What wallet did you have the 51 bitcoins in before the fork? and what addresses?  You need to make sure you have the private keys for ALL the addresses that your bitcoins are in.

What's all this talk about importing private keys and disclosing seed, etc?

I had a small of amount of BTC in an Electrum wallet on 1st August. I bought some more after 1st August and stored that in the same wallet.

My Ledger Nano S arrived this week and I transferred all BTC from my Electrum wallet to my Ledger Bitcoin wallet. Today, I downloaded Electron Cash, opened it with my Electrum password and within a couple of minutes it synchronised and displayed the same amount of BCC, complete with history, as I had BTC on 1st August. I transferred that to my Ledger Bitcoin Cash (Split) wallet.

Simple, and no need to create new wallets or use seed or private keys.

Well yeah, since you got a ledger, you didn't have to create a new wallet. For anyone that doesn't happen to have a Ledger arriving this week, they will have to create a new wallet to transport their pre-fork btc to.

Another alternative, as I understand, is to send your BTC to your exchange account (very temporarily), then install a BCH wallet, claim your BCH by entering your Electrum wallet (now empty) private key, and finally transfer back you BTC to your Electrum wallet?

There are 2 BCC listed.

How do I get the BCC out of my blockchain.info wallet.

I have:
  • The private key of the address. There's only one address in my wallet.
  • The 12 security words.

Ok, if you look at addresses tab in Electron Cash (wallet - show addresses), do you see that address? If not then the wallet has not been created with either the correct seed or is not using the correct derivation path.

To get your b.info wallet BCH, you need to:

"File -> New\Restore -> standard wallet -> I already have a seed -> Options -> BIP39 seed"

Then enter your 12 words from b.info and, when prompted, use derivation path: m/44'/0'/0'/0 (it should default to this)

No, I don't see my address.

Importing by seed:
"File -> New\Restore -> standard wallet -> I already have a seed -> Options -> BIP39 seed"
It's generating 20 addresses in "Receiving" and 6 addresses in "Change". My blockchain.info address (1Cbbv...) isn't listed there.

Importing by private key (WIF: L3…RY):
"File -> New\Restore -> standard wallet -> Private/Public Key"
I see only one address, which isn't my address too.

use derivation path: m/44'/0'/0'/0 (it should default to this)
Yes, it's the default value. I've used this.

After reading several tutorials and watching youtube howtos I didn't find any mistake on my side in importing my bch.info wallet.

Is there a way to specify the bitcoin address manually inside Electron Cash?
Or is there a different way to access the BCC in bch.info?

I already wrote an email to blockchain.info but didn't get any response. Would be nice if the would have split it automatically like Kraken has done.

Could you try to only export the private key from the specific address containing the BCC?

Ok... I'm fairly sure the issue is probably the whole b.info compressed/uncompressed key thing... (b.info is doing some sort of conversion behind the scenes... and the private key it spits out is a compressed key, but the address is the address for the uncompressed key)

Download and run an offline copy of bitaddress.org (https://www.bitaddress.org/)... goto "wallet details" tab, put your private key in and click "view details"

Do you see your 1CbbvF4AEtnkavWXrioemgjMYb86B4Po8X address? If so, try importing the WIF key listed on the same side as your "1Cbbv" address...

A small howto, in case someone else suffers this problem too.

Howto - Get your BCC from blockchain.info

1. Check if you blockchain.info address contains BCC:
https://blockchair.com/bitcoin-cash/address/putyouraddresshere
Search the row: "Total unspent (balance): x.xxxx BCC*

2. Get the private key from Blockchain.info:
  • Go to: Settings → Addresses → look into the line of your address on the right: More Options → Private Key
  • Select format: WIF
  • Copy the private key to a textfile on your computer.
.

3. Uncompress the private key
In Firefox:
  • go to www.bitaddress.org
  • Right click and save the page to your computer.
  • Firefox → Alt key to show the menu → File → (x) offline
  • Now load the saved html page of bitaddress.org.
  • Click wallet details and put your private key here.
  • If your address from blockchain.info shows up in "Bitcoin Address Compressed", select the Private Key from the uncompressed column.
.

4. Import your wallet into Electron Cash
  • Download and start Electron Cash (http://www.electroncash.org)
  • File → News/Restore → choose a wallet name → Standard Wallet → Use Public or Private Keys
  • Post here your uncompressed key from your bitaddress.org output.
.

The transactions should show up right now.

Glad you got it working... honestly, the b.info wallet is so full of issues... I know they're trying to make things "easy" but they've dumbed down so much stuff and just plain broken other things that it just causes so many issues :(

Their old "dynamic" fee structure just put 120 sats/byte for every transaction, so during the last fee spike the majority of "unconfirmed for XX hours/days" threads were all b.info users... now it has become obvious that their system is giving out the wrong the address/private key pairs when you export them... it's giving an uncompressed address with a compressed key :-\

I'd appreciate any help with my problem.

In anticipation of the recent btc fork (in the hope of getting some free BCC) I deposited btc into a new electrum wallet.

Immediately after the fork I was looking into "how do I get the BCC". One of the threads suggesting using the Coinomi Wallet. After looking into this it appeared that I needed a Android phone (which at the time I did not have).

I now have the Android phone (I thought I would just leave it until I got one) but after looking into this again I came across this thread. I saw talk of the Electron Cash wallet so I thought I'd use that instead of the Coinomi option.

I installed the Electron Cash wallet np and withdrew BCH 47.7 to my Bitfinex account.

However when I check the Bitfinex account it says that I received 0.00328812 BCH and that the value is $2.04.

Now I was expecting more (I thought it should be around $15). I deposited about £100 worth of BTC if anybody can do the math.

I should also mention that immediately after the fork I created a second electrum wallet. Then transferred the BTC into the new wallet and then withdrew to a Bitshares account. I'm thinking this might be the cause of the problem.

If anyone could enlighten me I'd be grateful.

If you can post the transaction ID of your transfer from ElectronCash to Bitfinex... it'll help clear things up.

But I suspect you have transferred 47.7 mBCH (which would have been around 0.0477000 BCH) as by default ElectronCash (and Electrum) are set to "milli" units... quite why that dropped to 0.032 BCH by the time it got to Bitfinex, I can't say... I'd need to see the txid to be able to be sure... but possibly the transaction fee?

The only way you would have had 47.7 BCH was if you had 47.7 BTC in your Electrum wallet at the time of the fork ;)

For the record, anything you did on BTC network AFTER the fork will have no effect whatsoever on BCH network... so the 2nd wallet and moving to bitshares will have had zero effect on BCH

I think I did have 47.7 BTC in the electrum wallet at the time of the fork. This is basically what I put into the second wallet and back to Bitshares.

It is good to know that the 2nd wallet will have zero effect. I thought that I might have screwed things up by moving the BTC out.

Thanks for the help btw and please let me know if you need any more information.

Ok, so looking at the transaction and the addresses involved...

1ExvzdTyFZMigD72eU3aCaPCPm28wcBBna received a total of 0.0477 BTC (47.7 mBTC) prior to the fork...

After the fork, you then transferred 0.0477 BCH from that address to 14o6hd7vF9ESktxSbxLdQxunXNsU1SLGKC (I assume this is the Bitfinex address?) in the 0c21121404e6e0416106b60f4aa764044bf983526c7066090b8d072de5311bfc (https://blockchair.com/bitcoin-cash/transaction/243756705) transaction... Receiving 0.04753 after fees.

If you only have 0.032 BCH credited to your Bitfinex account, you need to go ask them what happened to the rest of it... So they charge for deposits or something? ???

It really looks like you've got yourself confused with the "Milli" units that Electrum and ElectronCash both use by default... Granted you may actually have had 47 btc, but you only sent 0.0477 BCH in that transaction.

Finally decided to move all of my bitcoin to a new wallet on a new computer.

Am I right in saying that it’s this easy to claim my BCH -

-Download Electron Cash
-Click Wallet
-Click Private Keys
-Sweep
-Type all my old private keys that had bitcoin in them at the time of the fork

Pretty much... if you have moved all the BTC from those keys... you should be able to sweep the BCH from them following that process...

If they ever release a BTG compatible fork of Electrum, you'll be able to do the same thing to claim your BTG as well (assuming your BTC was still on those keys on 24th October)

Then it's not on that address. Electrum wallets contain multiple addresses... If you're just looking at the "receive" address listed on the receive tab, you're probably looking at an empty, unused address (by default Electrum and ElectronCash use the first "unused" address to receive)

You should look at the "coins" tab to see which addresses the coins are actually sitting on (View -> Show Coins)
