Title: The MtGox Account Recovery Time Formula
Post by: Gabriel Beal on June 21, 2011, 05:00:11 PM
If they are doing a manual verification process then this is going to take a long time.

Accounts * AvgTimeToVerify (in seconds) / NumOfEmployees

So, my guess is 60,000 * 60 / 5 = 72,000s to completion (8.33 full days of work).

Of course I'm just guessing on the last two numbers.  Anyone else have better information?

I'm pretty sure that if only one person tries to claim an account, and it had a strong password, then it'll be handled automatically. Most of the accounts will fall in this category. There will probably be a small number of disputed accounts, though, and those will take a lot longer to sort out.

You're also assuming that people don't have test accounts or abandoned ones.

They may also automate reactivation if the current balances are extremely small/near zero, which would save time.

(Just my personal theory..)

And if there's only a single person doing the complete verification.

I dunno about now, but apparently only Kevin & hacker's account were active on that day.
