Title: HELP, my 7950 stuck at gpu-engine 500 and memclock 150
Post by: 18RATTT on May 16, 2013, 02:03:14 PM
i give up, after 5 hours trying to fix it using my own knowledge.

hail bitcointalkers... pls aid to my misery, end it please...  :)

ok, here's what happen, i received my PCIe extender/riser (x16 to x16).
i install 2x7950 using pcie extenders and 1 to mb's pcie, so my mb now have 3pcs of 7950 (Sapphire version)
im running latest cgminer and everything, mind you that if i use 2 of them, they are fine, ive been mining them for 2 weeks using 2 gpu.

So, the problem is that one of the gpu (the one in the riser) is stuck at:
core clock 500 mhz
memclock 150 mhz

my config --gpu-engine 1000 --gpu-memclock 1500 wont affect the particular gpu's clock. the notion that the gpu cant be altered its core clock and memclock, is just beyond me.
i tried downloading MSI after burner and Trixxx to reset the setting on the gpu, but still no luck.

any kind of help or insight would be really appreciate it.
thank you..

Driver thinks it's inactive and forces it to 2D-mode clocks? Would a dummy plug help?

Might be your extender?  Have you tried switching the extender to the other vcard?

what do u mean by dummy plug? how to tell the driver to activate the 3rd gpu ?

i did switched them up, so its not the extender issue, i bought 15.... so i tried it out, it was a painful 5hrs journey :(

Try plugging your display into this card.

Try plugging your display into this card.
im gonna do this next, but then again, i always leave my miners headless and control them using TeamVIewer.

Dummy plug tricks card into thinking it's not running headless. There are guides around if you Google... something like "dummy plug GPU Bitcoin" (w/o ") should work. Basically just putting a couple resistors in DVI/VGA holes.

Some configs have trouble utilizing all graphics cards headless, where driver downclocks GPU as if it's idling, even at full load.

thanks for the insight Kluge, ive googled about the dummy plugs, im reading it atm and going to try it out.

the weird thing is, my other mining rig have 4x7950 and it runs normal without using dummy plug.

reinstall the driver, don't need dummy with new driver

BUMP!

Have the same problem here... reinstalled all drivers and nothing. Also tested with no risers, with those 3 GPUs directly connected to the mobo. 6950s are running ok, but the 7950 stuck at 500/150.

The GPUs are 2x6950 and 1x7950 btw.

Any ideas?

I get this when the driver crashes so I presume you can alter such a state by using a different version maybe.   Im looking for a util that will restart when the gpu load falls to zero

some old benchmarks would run a small floating 3d cube, so the mode was engaged.   does directx test have that still

The funny thing is that when I use 1x7950 and 1x6950, everything works fine. The problem is just when I install all cards (1x7950 and 2x6950). Then the 2 6950 work just fine (OC, etc) but the 7950 gets stucked. If I remove the third, everything goes back to normal... IŽll try to reinstall the OS.

Update: I reinstalled the OS Win7 64, drivers 12.8, SDK 2.7, etc. Now it is running with those 3 GPUs on cgminer 3.1.1, but some times one or another GPU gets dead. ???

Cgwatcher is helping...
