Title: Is travelforcoins.com legit or scam?
Post by: TObject on August 08, 2017, 04:12:03 PM
Sent them some Bitcoins four days ago, and received a pending confirmation right away. Then nothing…

A day ago emailed them, and received no reply.

Now what? Keep waiting or write it off as bad experience and book somewhere else?

I think it's safe to say you got scammed. Sorry that happened to you.
Unfortunately, scamming is very common in the Bitcoin world.
It is like the Wild, Wild West - only wilder. Be more careful next time!

Thanks.

travelforcoins.com is prominently mentioned on multiple bitcoin directories and blogs.

If anyone here advertises travelforcoins.com on his or her website, take note.

Upon checking it in whois the domain is old but honestly never heard this site even in many forums like the above said looks like you've scammed.
here the creation date and updated date.

Updated Date: 2017-02-11T16:18:24Z
Creation Date: 2013-03-12T06:22:58Z
Registry Expiry Date: 2018-03-12T06:22:58Z

That i think we can say the site is old and upon checking in archive the site are living for a long time..

Much better to try move this in scam accusation or make a new thread about it just to inform other people that you've scammed in that site. .

Travelforcoins website has been online since March 2013, https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=157948.0

They do run a couple of other websites.

i dont see any profit to be made for them.
the fee($2) is just too small.
and even their exchage rate is much higher than mt.gox. now at $135.

Just came across this thread.... Thanks guys. haha.

Well, FWIW, travel for coins is owned by the same company that owns giftsforcoins, pizzaforcoins, and billpayforcoins.

Here is some reddit threads of happy experiences. I would urge you to find negative reviews anywhere as we have never had an unhappy customer....

Giftforcoins user hasn't been online since April 2014. They do have a couple of positive reviews, but about four years ago.

They have been listed on bitcoin directories and about four months ago cryptocoinnews has mentioned travelforcoins in their article, https://www.cryptocoinsnews.com/9-things-didnt-know-buy-bitcoin/

Since you already emailed them and no response, try to contact them through Facebook or their Twitter handle, http://www.travelforcoins.com/contact.php

If you don't get any response move this thread to scam accusations. If travelforcoins is indeed scam and since they have been listed on many bitcoin related websites, it would prevent others from getting scammed.

I think recently there is a growing trend in the number of websites that were active in the past becoming inactive/obsolete. For example pizzaforcoins used to be a really big thing in the bitcoin circles but now is defunct.

I would bet that travelforcoins is something similar. It is likely to be an abandoned project.

You should have checked out their social media, and whether they have any sort of recent activity before just blindly using their service.

What you can do now? Not much, maybe try to go onto whois and find out some more info about the owner and contact him personally. If you can't, then tough luck. But keep trying, you deserve to have your money back.
