So they just paid the miners $1.50 to send around about a half million dollars?!?

What's wrong with that?

A 112.46 satoshis/byte fee is relatively a high fee for the current Bitcoin network situation.

That's one of Bitcoin's good part. The fees you pay are not determined by the amount sended. You can either send $1 or $1.000.000 in a single transaction, but your fees will be the same.

P.s: It's 400k satoshis (~$14), not 40k.

Fees are based on transaction size, not value transacted. This is normal.
