You can try install electrum wallet first into your windows machine and after installation make sure you make account first after that click the file in top left and click open and find this folder C:\Users\admin\AppData\Roaming\Electrum\wallets
And put the wallet.dat there and open it in electrum wallet.. wait to sync and you can see your transaction.

download a wallet then add the file to it. You can then update your blockchain and you should be able to see how much coins are in there. :) I wish you the best of luck! I found .1 a couple weeks ago like this :P Good stuff when it was $250 I didn't know I had.

You can get the addresses in the wallet by opening bitcoin-qt without having to download the entire block chain, if it's a core wallet.dat.
Open up the debug window:
https://i.krist.club/CfpH.png

Then open the console tab:
https://i.krist.club/mvTi.png

And type listaddressgroupings and press enter.
https://i.krist.club/n6ho.png

It will show you a bunch of addresses associated with the wallet and you can check a block explorer to see if any have funds. (The wallet will say 0 because it's not synced)

The offline bitcoin wallet creates a .dat file for every addresses. He might have used a offline wallet and backed up the wallet file and forgot about that.

If you know they are from a Bitcoin wallet, then use the import function to see the addresses associated with the wallet and export the private associated with the ones with balance

It is worth now that you found 1.16 Btc in your wallet to buy a used hard disk of 500 or 1000 GB and start syncing your Bitcoin Core Wallet. You will get almost 4000 USD in value for that amount of Btc. You will spend 30 to 50 USD in order to get the almost 4000 USD in value from that wallet. Stories like yours are a true inspiration for me as I like people who have kept their wallet.dat for a long time. Congratulations.

You can use this commandline option on any recent Bitcoin Core to limit the size to a few GB:
Code:
-prune=550

Edit: I only now notice I found a thread from last week.

Hi guys
I found 5 wallet.dat files, from 2014
I doubt there is something in it but who knows.
I installed bitcoin core on a PC
I replaced default wallet.dat by these files 1 by 1, then launched the exe.
Bitcoin core is not synched.
When I go in menu "File", then "Receving address..." it displays me an address like this :
https://gyazo.com/af27d73a150ffd936427964e2332c947
I checked on blockchain.info explorer and there is no bitcoin in it.
Does this mean there is no btc at all then no need to download the blockchain? (even with param prune it's slow)
Thank you for your help.

Prune doesn't make the download faster, it makes it smaller on your disk. But, if you want to check several old wallet.dat files, you shouldn't use prune. A pruned blockchain can't check old transactions.

If it just shows one receiving address, and that one is empty according to blockchain.info, the wallet contains no Bitcoins. Note that this might be different for a corrupted wallet, but that doesn't seem to be the case here.

Then please how can I check wallet adresses to check balances?
Without downloading the blockchain.
And without pywallet that doesnt work.
Can I import wallet.dat to electrum? I didnt manage to import it to blockchain.info, seems it needs a .json
Thank you for your help!

Without downloading the blockchain.
The wallet can be opened in Bitcoin Core without you having to synchronize the chain. As soon as you open Bitcoin Core, pause the network download (there's a toggle). Then go into Receiving addresses and copy/paste them. Then check them in any blockchain explorer.

Can I import wallet.dat to electrum?
No.

Since the amount is trivial, you could take your wallet.dat and send your funds to an address of your choosing. Watch out for scammers though, they might offer similar "help" and steal your funds (this has happened more times than one would think). Although if you decide to do something like this, then you should never use the wallet.dat again (or the containing addresses).

1.16 bitcoin is nothing to laugh at these days, enjoy your new found money :D
Maybe keep 1 bitcoin in cold storage & spend the 0.16 having fun.

Thanks,
If this is exact it s what I did, and each of the wallet have only 1, and the same receiving address, and explorers shows this adress as empty. So no money for me for this time, right?
Thank you for your help!

1) Bitcoin Core will show a balance of 0 until it has been synchronized.
2) If the Bitcoin is on one of the addresses (how many wallets/addresses are we talking about), then this should be visible on any explorer.
3)

(even with param prune it's slow)
Pruning takes exactly the same amount of time (well, almost) as normal synchronization and requires you to download and validate ~145 GB.

Thanks
Then when I see this (same for all wallet.dat), it means only 1 address in the wallet. Then i check on an explorer and that's it?
Thank you

I would say yes, that is the expected behavior. I can't fully confirm it with a fresh test though. Have you found your money yet?
