Set your BIOS so that the machine will start on power on then use THAT switch. Some motherboards have a power switch ON the motherboard (ASRock 970 Extreme4 as an example) though that doesn't seem to be a common thing. I've never had a motherboard die due to using a screwdriver on the power on pins - they're NOT normally a high impedence input connection subject to static issues - but I won't say it's impossible, and you CAN short stuff out that WILL kill the motherboard if the screwdriver slips at a bad point and hits the wrong spot. I recommend using a shorting block instead of a screwdriver, if you can't get one of the other options already mentioned to work. Title: Re: How do you start a rig without a power button? Well your a pro....some of us "lower skilled" folks like to buy fancy crap :D I've been building HIGH end gaming PCs since 1998,I have never used anything but a jumper wire to start my extra PSUs. Look for the Power Settings menu item within the BIOS ( “Advanced” or “ACPI” or "Power Management Setup" ) and change the AC Power Recovery, “Restore on AC/Power Loss” or “AC Power Recovery” or "After Power Loss". "On." You are looking for a power-based setting that affirms that the PC will power on when power becomes available. So after this when you turned off the pc , just turn off a power supply switch for a few second , then switch that switch back , and your pc will turn on as soon as its sense a available power :) Title: Re: How do you start a rig without a power button? I had this issue too at the beginning because I didn't know where to start the motherboard and I thought that I bought a broken motherboard lol But after researching in youtube and in google I found that I need tool (A screwdriver) and touch two pins (JP1 in my mobo) and you see the magic :P Title: Re: How do you start a rig without a power button? This would be difficult for those making many rigs, though.

Post by: SCSI2 on August 16, 2017, 06:51:03 AM I have managed to reset my bios to factory defaults a few times accidentally while using a screwdriver. CMOS reset is nearby on the Asus Z270 mobo.
