Where you honestly want to use it there are some ways that i am sometimes doing and make us phone number and i think its free you don;t need to pay for it.. you can try to download the apps from playstore the name is textme or textnow.. that both are working that you can get US numbers..

You have been told right that textnow numbers work almost everywhere. I have personally tested their numbers at gmail,coinbase,paypal,google voice,blockchain.
