But in crypto there are really pump and dump groups. I have not joined one but I have seen several promotions and invitations to join a group. Basically, they are there to somehow manipulate the market. The group will for example buy in bulk a certain cheap coin. The result is that there is pumping in price because the demand significantly increases. And then they dump because the price is already high, causing the price to dump as well. And then they buy again.
