What's the most trouble free linux distro for mining?  I'll be using a 7970.

Any stable release, or a LTS release.

Gentoo. Hands down.

OH man I crack myself up. Just download Ubuntu. A lot of people use 12.10, but 13.04 should work just as well.

Actually Ubuntu 12.04 might be the least painful right now. Newer is rarely better for something of this nature.

Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
I liked 10.4 the best, but they stopped supporting it. Anything else is not so easy to use (although if you set up debian you are probably good to go for years without downtime)

Thanks.  I'll try Ubuntu.  That's like Debian, right.  I'm very familiar with Debian.

afaik ubuntu is based off debian testing. Get debian stable if you want ridiculous stability.

If Debian is problem free for mining I'll use that.  I prefer to anyway.  Just looking for the best chance of a good fit for the GPU.
