Title: Hash rate drops when screen power its turned off - GPU ATI Post by: toinodascoives on May 18, 2013, 12:16:45 AM I noticed that hash rate drop when screen power its turn off. Im wondering if there is some solution on software conf. that don't allow the GPU (ATI) to idle and drop near half of the hash power.
Shouldnt be the opposite as GPU no longer need to refresh the screen? Most likely its some software config or any linux/windows configuration that i'm falling. Sry for posting this issue here again, i posted on cgminer topic inicial but since it is more a global issue as it happens with the other miners aswell and I didn't found yet a solution to solve this issue decided to post it here to see if anyone got a sugestion/oppinion about how to solve it. Tks in advance for the sugestions /help :) Title: Re: Hash rate drops when screen power its turned off - GPU ATI Post by: jayeeyee on May 18, 2013, 02:46:34 PM I don't understand how turning off the physical monitor (pressing the "power/on-off" button) would affect hash rates. It has never happen to me and I'm using cgminer myself. I don't know if the fix for it might be the use of a dummy plug but you could give that a shot if you don't already have it. Otherwise, the only thing I can imagine that would affect hashrate when the monitor turns off is because the computer is put into sleep mode. Sorry I couldn't be of further use.

Should be some energy savings settings that i cant figure out. It was already sugested dummy plug and im trying to do to keep good Hash rate but im just wondering if it would be possible to do it at software lvl. Title: Re: Hash rate drops when screen power its turned off - GPU ATI Post by: notaek on May 22, 2013, 03:43:36 AM Open GPUz and go to sensors. See if the clock speeds drop when you turn the monitor off.

Title: Re: Hash rate drops when screen power its turned off - GPU ATI Post by: toinodascoives on May 22, 2013, 12:40:42 PM Tks for your replys, this issue its on my laptop, ATI M 5730.
I know its not good as desktops but at the moment its what i got... :( Title: Re: Hash rate drops when screen power its turned off - GPU ATI Post by: notaek on May 22, 2013, 04:43:34 PM Tks for your replys, this issue its on my laptop, ATI M 5730. I know its not good as desktops but at the moment its what i got... :( Well that's why… laptops turn off, sleep, or go into some sort of low power state when the lid is closed. You honestly shouldn't even be mining with that card unless you have free electricity. Title: Re: Hash rate drops when screen power its turned off - GPU ATI Post by: madkind on May 22, 2013, 08:33:14 PM Even if you have free electricity, it is extremely bad for a laptop to be stressed 24/7 because of the heat. It will fry itself in no time.
Title: Re: Hash rate drops when screen power its turned off - GPU ATI Post by: toinodascoives on May 23, 2013, 12:42:42 PM I know its not good for the laptop health thats why i was wondering if there is something i could do not to drop the hash rate when i close the screen because that way i can change it for a position where it can refrigerate better when im not using it. Air here its not that hot ;)
And yes electricity its not a problem and we are still talking about 78Mhz. I dont intend to use it 24/7, it is more for when its not been used. To help the community i already have the bitcoin software turned on and would like to mine a bit more while i'm not using the laptop. :) Title: Re: Hash rate drops when screen power its turned off - GPU ATI Post by: ravenx13 on June 02, 2013, 04:55:00 PM I have the exact same problem. My workaround: disable the screensaver and disable monitor auto power off. That keeps my hashrates at the normal level.
Title: Re: Hash rate drops when screen power its turned off - GPU ATI Post by: toinodascoives on June 02, 2013, 06:23:57 PM I did smth similar but this way you keep expending a bit of energy by keeping monitor on ;)
But that isn't the main problem, i'm more concerned about the LCD health with this approach... I'm guessing your graphics driver switches to low power mode the instant the screen turns off.I know its not good as desktops but at the moment its what i got... :( Title: Re: Hash rate drops when screen power its turned off - GPU ATI Post by: toinodascoives on June 03, 2013, 01:58:25 PM I'm guessing your graphics driver switches to low power mode the instant the screen turns off. Most likely yes, is there a way to avoid it? Any register that its possible to change to avoid that or its more bios/hardware config. ?
