Title: Will Ethereum eventually become an internet money?
Post by: bcnaranjo on August 14, 2017, 03:11:49 AM
What do you think? Will Ethereum will, inevitably, eventually become the internet money?

No because it is not designed to become an internet money, neither the community nor the developers and creators have this kind of goal or vision.

I guess it wasn't developed for that purpose,  but ethereum has it's own potential. We see it growing steadily, no long jump in the value growth, but it is growing. And because it has more block size for transactions, it's open source I believe, makes it desirable for many people. It's not certain if it can become internet money, but it has several potential.

I can imagine that it might come to that.
Maybe some symbiotic relationship between those two currencies will occure.
Bitcoin could be the form of investment while Ethereum is becoming more and more the payment form due to its lower transaction fees.

the short version: no, not in a million years

the long version:
ethereum is not supposed to be internet money. you need to really research these things before making an statement like this. it was not designed to perform as a currency. you can read this in statements of the developers too.

also on top of it, ethereum is not even capable of performing what a currency is supposed to do. and it was already tested and proven that it can not. the whole network simply fails under the load. and it had already happened.

No. I dont think so.
We do have a lot of supporters for ETH but the extent of making it as a currency is impossible.
It may have a great price now but that was thanks to altcoins who are using ETH as their mother.
It is so popular because of this.

Ethereum will never become the internet money after all, the purpose for it's creation is different. Ethereum was created for the sole purpose of running smart contracts for tokens. It is never intended by the owners for it to be used to pay online and because of this reason it will never become one. Even if there are many supporters of eth, it still won't happen unless a token running it will be used for that purpose.

No I don't think it was made or created as an internet money though a lot now would prefer using Ethereum because of it blockchain but then have it exchanged still to Bitcoin in the end.

The purpuse of eth is totally different from being a simply a "gold standard"

Ethereum has never been designed for this purpose, so no, it will not. Ethereum rather has been designed to be a world-computer, offering cheap computation power. Ether, its native currency, has just been given a value, but that is all.

Ethereum will stay as is, a platform. Bitcoin will always and forever be the internet money.

I don't think it will be either, but it is, of course, not impossible. Just like any crypto - or any real-life product -, if enough people accept its value as money, it will be used as money (also).

If we all accept apples as money - even though it's also food - then apples can become money. I think that's a good comparison, since it shows it's not impossible, but at the same time, a little bit absurd. :)

most of the replied here said no since it was not created to be one, i think eth have its own focus to served the purpose of its creation
and it should be that way and maybe better for all the coin which been developed should focus on their owned venue so they can be
more successful instead of trying to imitate btc.

I don't believe ETH meant to be 'internet money'.
It's a platform.
Maybe it will be a platform that projects will use to create the future internet money.

Its possible to consider but i think Bitcoin would be the first in this case on which it would be an internet money but thinking of on to reality aspect i guess no one would really reach out that point even bitcoin because government wont really allow such thing to happen i would say that people will still prefer local fiat coins and sticking into those tradition payment online system.

If any coin is going to be a internet money, that should be bitcoin or monero but I don't like privacy in coins.

no but it can be a good support coin, for bitcoin, bitcoin is the internet of money, and ethereum can support bitcoin, for something that can be build on the blockchain by providing a good decentralized platform, that bitcoin do not have and we can not build everything on the bitcoin blockchain

No because it is not designed to become an internet money, neither the community nor the developers and creators have this kind of goal or vision.

Yes, I also agree with your opinion, the purpose of making ethereum is not for that, they have a bigger goal in the field of technology that will bring a new breakthrough in the world of technology.

But in my opinion, they want create a community use cryptocurrency for market online. User can buy any things as FIAT and not have any worry about the risk get scam ...

It seems to me, the secret of Ether's success is that the Ether platform gives the possibility of creating new coins. Interest in new coins is the engine of interest in the Ether. Look at the facts - Ether is already Internet money.

Im not quite sure that Ethereum will become an internet money, but Bitcoin can be one. the good thing about Ethererum is you can build other coin using their platform... next, investor and other miners will not agree with that because government will pass a bill for taxation of each one of your coin when it happen.

I suppose anything could be used as a currency, even if that was not the intention. Like how prisoners trade cans of fish or cigarrettes as currency. If Ethereum has the majority of the market share, then it COULD be the de facto curency.

Realistically, I'm thinking that Bitcoin will reign as the top internet currency in the future.

I remember reading about that maybe last year? Cigarettes are now the second most valuable currency in prison. Ramen noodles are now top, and especially in USA and Europe actually! ETH may never reach de facto of Bitcoin but it could have its own niche, the way Monero has a niche. ETH the investment currency maybe.

Not already a internet money but it has potential but not in the way that it would be a internet money nor in the near future.

Bitcoin is deflating coin, Eth is inflating. That is the main difference. But Eth will be a great platform for ICO I think.

Eventually it will, the diverse usage of Ethereum is too wide. so basically it will be commerical and finance giants currencies to manipulate the market.

It could happen, because very many ico projects are using ethereum, but it would still be very difficult to be "internet money"

Ethereum initial purpose is/was to help other devs build smart contract applications on the eth blockchain and not to aid the payment system. People opt to use it for payments because of its fast block times which makes it convenient for everyone to use but when it comes to internet money we have other crypto coins that are more suited to be used for this purpose.

Agree with this but since many new altcoin will born every years, it will makes the Ethereum price increase though, even not high like the bitcoin price. Actually the project itself Ethereum is really success and it is an internet money for the dev of ethereum lol. What i'm sure is the longevity of Ethereum will be long.
