Title: Oh Shit! - Did the blockchain just stop??!!
Post by: RawDog on August 14, 2017, 08:52:53 AM
Its been over an hour since last block was found!  Maybe all the hash rate is moving to Bitcoin Cash?  wtf?

the only response that this topic deserves is found in your own avatar!
that is the face of anybody with smallest understanding of bitcoin will have when they read your dumb comments! ;)

The average time between new blocks is 10 minutes.  Sometimes a block can be found very quickly or take a long time.  An hour certainly isn't unheard of.  Just thought I'd explain, unless this is a joke in which case,  :D

480481    18 minutes    2444    27,706.10 BTC    BTC.com    998.23

Blockchain.info says that one is found 18 minutes ago. Maybe China just stopped their miners for a day  ;D

Oh yeah, you're the guy who claimed that directory.io lets people steal your coins.  So you start some FUD threads every now and then about perfectly normal activity.  Perhaps you just don't understand how probability works.

It's pretty decent trolling though, so fair play to you.
Maybe all the hash rate is moving to Bitcoin Cash?
Quote from cash.coin.dance (http://cash.coin.dance):

Quote from: cash.coin.dance
The Bitcoin Cash blockchain is currently operating at 13% of the original chain's difficulty.

lol I remember when directory.io first appeared and people started to panic.  Articles on it everywhere and the guy who created it is just sitting and laughing.  ;D

It's not like waiting for an hour for a block hasn't happened in bitcoin yet. Also, it's not a guaranteed 10-minute wait time for the blocks to be processed/found. Quit yapping and try to read more about the topic. Sheesh.

The site is just full of empty addresses and not much to be found there. It was really funny for those who said that bitcoin is not safe since privkeys are laid out bare in the clearnet.

I don't know where is that coming from, but no, I don't think so, blocks times are mostly almost random and skipping just an hour isn't an indicator for anything, and the difficulty changes according to the hashrate so that doesn't change anything.

Bitcoin cash? really?

Or maybe people can just look at the various tools providing analysis of the hashrate and see that it's still (https://bitinfocharts.com/comparison/bitcoin-hashrate.html#3m) steadily (https://blockchain.info/charts/hash-rate?timespan=30days) climbing (https://data.bitcoinity.org/bitcoin/hashrate/6m?c=m&g=15&t=a) over the last 3 to 6 months.  It seems strange to think you can successfully troll people about stuff like this when everything is available for all to view and examine in fine detail.  Then again, we are sadly living very much in the age of "fake news" and general popular ignorance, despite the abundance of easily verifiable information.

Sparking a FUD?  ;)
That is not nice. Stop this non sense about the blockchain stopping. You wont get anything from this. Only fools will believe this and I dont think there is one here in the forum since they even know how to register here and they wont end up here without research.

When he says the Blockchain stopped to work, it has to be taken at the second level of humor. It's a sarcasm. Of course, He knows the blockchain didn't stop to work. He is not so dumb to really believe such thing. You guys are really sensible

On the subject of "fake news", it tend to be created by owners of media, websites, blogs, etc... spreaded by twits, using twitter, twittering "fake news", trying to out-twit each other to see whom the biggest twit of the day. Now has it occurred to you that the links you provided may just be "fake news." ;D ;D ;D

This has happened previously as well, if I am not wrong. I remember sometime in 2015, when we waited for well over 60 minutes for a new block. It all depends on the mining difficulty and sheer luck.

Never can be too complacent, heh.   ;D

I'd like to think those particular sources have been fairly reliable to date, though I'm sure some would argue blockchain.info have had their questionable moments over the years.  Plus it's probable that live, real-time and (most importantly) convincing statistics would be considerably more difficult to fabricate than the typically low standard of fake news we're accustomed to.  I think I'm pretty safe.   ;D

Speaking of questionable sources, here's a wikipedia article about variance to explain that (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Variance).   ;D

Very ridiculous thought and it will take almost 1K year to mine the last block and even more I guess. Why you don’t understand the difficulty and mining industry relations? Its not that easy to stop the blockchain. There are numerous blocks to be mined and for now its confirmed that its not yet finished.

Note 1:  Even in the extremely unlikely scenario that all of the major mining pools switched to Bitcoin Cash, the blockchain would not "stop".  The speed of blocks would be expected to decrease until the next difficulty adjustment period, after which they would be expected to be mined every ten minutes again.

Note 2:  The hashrate and the hashrate compared to Bitcoin Cash are both publicly available information.

Note 3:  Variance is a thing.

note 0: look at who is making the topic (you can check the post history if you don't know him).

note 0.1: this is not the first time this happened and won't be the last because simply there is no rule for time between blocks apart from the 2016 in about 2 weeks.

I beg your pardon.
The blockchain stopped working a few years ago when bitcoin hit 1000$ and since then he is unemployed and spending all his money on drugs and (!).

Now, to all the others who already started another altcash BTC war, it is not about the hashrate.
The hashrate doesn't matter really. Even if all miners by some miracle would switch to altcash the blocks will still be mined until the last cpu miner stops.
The blocks will arrive a little late as difficulty adjusts but that's all.
And with bitcoin surging over 4000$ I doubt there aren't hundred of miners being plugged in each day.

This happens from time to time due to sheer (un)luck. Chill out.
