Blockstream is a company that employs several Bitcoin Core developers?

Also what are you even talking about? All Bitcoin transactions are recorded in the blockchain. What will the NSA "capture" exactly? Everything is already public.

This is quite impressive to me and feel great to be part of world's upcoming money usage system. They launched the satellite for bitcoin only this will reduce the block issues.
I expect fortune 500 companies to invest on bitcoin and blockchain technology business. That will provide the impact and great move on bitcoin.

You still need to access the internet, they're just providing that access for free and it'll probably only be open to bitcoin transactions. They need to be connected to the Blockchain, which if it were taken off the internet would end the whole system (or at least the fundamental point of having an open and free money system).

Blockstream doesn't own the blockchain, they're just providing free access to the internet so no one has to pay an internet service provider for that access.

Let's keep the facts straight!

And do we care about people who don't have access to the internet having access to the blockchain if they only have dust to transact? Right now they can't even afford the transaction fees!

After going through the article, I cannot but commend such initiative because it plans to cater quite an amount of the untapped population which is something I see as good news and the time those people are brought into the cryto net, the moon will be the starting point for the crypto world especially bitcoin. Aside that, the article also dwell on several happenings around the world to even further make a case for the penetration of bitcoin.

The need of internet connection to some places, especially in provinces and islands that don't have an internet connection is a hindrance to bitcoins full potential to make it as a legit currency. Having an independent satellite is good but we must know that this will require a very big budget ( maintenance and for launching the satellite ) and this will even make it prone for missile attacts and terrorism's. If they're going to lauch some satellite, they must back up the server here on the ground.

usually this kind of communications [satellite between end user and broadcast entwork] are one way only.
but bitcoin need to receive and trasmit.
i have read link and i see who they have nothing details how to broadcast transactions.
I wil aprreciate if they will give us more info about this "LITTLE" detail.

If they are really launching the satellite then it is a new step in the case of bitcoin and if that could help bitcoin in the future and could help users then it is a really great thing,i am not sure how much money you need to send a satellite but i really appreciate if they are thinking about launching it.

If the satellite mines bitcoin, will it mine bitcoins more quickly in orbit because of General Relativity?

https://blockchain.info/unconfirmed-transactions
you can also get this if you run a full node and watch your memory pool

and here is the history of "BTC traffic":
https://blockchain.info/blocks
you can also get this by running a full node and watching your blockchain

go ahead and "capture" it.

This is legit and exactly what we need to get 3rd world countries on board with BItcoin as most of them do not have reliable access to the internet in every home.

This is very cool.
Having a bitcoin satelite is another milestone for the community.
Making a transaction without internet is a big help to us. Like many places in the world are not yet reach of internet and internet is the mainstream why many others are not adopting this so if we can have the satelite many will adopt and use this and the price will influence by the massive adoption.

Did I just see someone comment that people will be able to make transactions without internet? That sounds kinda crazy. What do you mean? How can you send Bitcoin to someone that leaves a far distance without the use of internet. I don’t think that’s really possible.

Bitcoin is literally getting closer to the moon. :D

This is like a crypto anarchist wet dream, bitcoin resilience as increased a lot with this project, more like this will become a reality, this is how we build an indestructible network.

how can we catch the "Bitcoin Sputnik" signal ?

ps-> maybe a nickname like "tesla black knight satellite" would be more funny ...

The origin of the Black Knight legend is often "retrospectively dated" back to natural extraterrestrial repeating sources supposedly heard during the 1899 radio experiments of Nikola Tesla  ::) 8)

This is good news. Bitcoin technology increasingly sophisticated and increasingly enjoyed by people. Maybe this is a smart innovation transact bitcoin without internet connection. I think this kind of technology needs to be developed and multiplied throughout the world. Making it easier for bitcoin transactions

This sounds great, but have a thing I still do not understand. That is, if there is no internet, how can we make transactions and how to link accounts on the trading floor. This makes me doubt this information. Is it real or just PR? But if that is true then surely the btc community will be very happy, so that btc is hardly forbidden  or die ...

This seems to be great news. But I say this with caution because I cannot fully comprehend, how transactions can be processed without Internet.

"oh good! bitcoin over satellite! Could be damn good!!! But how to broadcast my transaction to bitcoin blockchain??? Satelite connection are just one way! I Can just receive data!"
