Title: Seed vs No Seed (transferring wallets)
Post by: Arvie on August 16, 2017, 01:15:09 PM
Pls check Docs » Frequently Asked Questions

Under Can I import private keys from other Bitcoin clients?, a procedure is described for transfer of an existing wallet to a new one WITHOUT seed.

Say the existing wallet was held in Multibit. Can the seed of the original existing Multibit wallet still be used to recover the new wallet under Electrum?

Thks

Yes. Electrum also supports BIP39 seeds from Multibit. You can do it just like how people can restore their Electrum wallet.

Create a new wallet, Select standard wallet>I already have a seed>Key in your seed phrase and when prompted, the derivation path is
Code:
m/0'
.

Thanks ... BUT I mean something else!

I did transfer my Multibit wallet already with procedure described. Result is a wallet in Electrum that does not have a seed. That new Electrum wallet has been used for a while.

Given that situation, suppose I want to restore yet another time, because the new Elecrum wallet got lost or damaged ... and does no have a seed ... is he old seed of Multibit wallet still usable for restoration?

hi, i follow this guide to restore my multibit HD wallet but there is something wrong.
It import 0 btc and no transaction...
Instead on my multibit hd wallet i've bitcoins.

There is just one difference from the guide.

I have 2.8.3 electron version and it ask me to "enter your bip44 account number here"  instead of "enter your wallet derivation here".

I can just write 0 or an other number. If i try to write m/0' it doesn't work.

Can you help me?

Thanks a lot!

You need to upgrade. It only works on Electrum v2.9.0 and higher as that is when the custom derivation path functionality was added... current version is v2.9.3.
