Title: How about some "Star" endorsements?
Post by: Its About Sharing on May 18, 2013, 08:12:15 PM
Since BTC seems as much a revolution as it is a "monetary" movement, I wonder what would happen if a "notable" person endorsed BTC. (Actually, I think,  the outcome is clear as people listen.)

Do any of you remember when John Lennon spoke out against war? That affected the populace as a whole. Who is going to speak out? When will the tipping point be reached?

You all think getting VC money and such is big? you have seen NOTHING yet. The fun is just starting.  ;)

I really wonder, how many people have ANY IDEA how BIG this is? How many of you see this? This is game changing, extremely game changing. Wars have been waged for less...

Don't the Winklevoss twins count? They can tell people how Bitcoin helped them with their rowing.

VCs are jackals who want to make money for the 1%. Behind all their talk of innovation are the bucks of the current system. Taking VC money is selling out Bitcoin to the highest bidder.

I believe Ashton Kutcher had some good things to say about Bitcoin already as well.

Maybe we should start a Twitter campaign to inform some of them what is happening?

That was at the TechCrunch Disrupt conference.

Do we have any real stars left?  John Lennon was not only super popular, he was also quite intelligent.  The only stars I know of are the ones who like money and/or bitches, but that might explain why I avoid them.

What would happen if the lead singer of a very very popular band started talking about Bitcoin?

What would happen if another key figure in the minds of millions (as John Lennon could have in the past) started talking about Bitoin?

ENDGAME...

It is very sad that the general populace rely on those good at singing or at kicking round objects to think for them.

I think we could get the stars of the music world on board if they figured out that they can be paid directly...their entire industry could be changed for the better using Bitcoin.

The artists could actually get paid for their art, instead of getting shafted repeatedly at every level of production and distribution.

Essentially every artist could be an indie artist....with the benefit of possibly getting rich from their work.

Right now the music industry is in a very screwed up top heavy organization, with contracts designed to contain new artists so that they can never hope to make real money. This has produced "one hit wonder" after "one hit wonder" and the producers are the ones getting rich as a result. They do not want bands to be successful beyond the one hit wonder, as it means in the next contract they will have more leverage to get paid.

Their fans should be the ones deciding the success of our favorite bands....not the fat cat producers.

Bitcoin is the solution to this problem.

It is also sad that we are lead by the least among us. But you deal with it.

Agreed. I've wondered why more Artists don't have "paypal" donate buttons if you like their music but don't want to buy it. Now with Bitcoin it would be fee free, even better.

Artists and BTC go great together... (sounds like a commercial  ;D)

One of the thing that needs to happen is to identify who is sympathetic and then hassel them on social networks. Get "Stars" to post their Wallet addresses on social Networks because you want to pay them some bitcoin because you illegally downloaded their content.. Imagine if Tom Cruise posted his wallet address! I'd Put Something in it! Wouldn't you?

I really wish someone would recognize it too...

My question is:
Where are all the New Rich?
Every technological revolution creates "New Rich" (farming, math, building, mining/drilling, transporting, industrialization...). Why is there not a SINGLE Bitcoin millionaire in the news... Or on these forums even...

There is a guy who has been on US news telling the world he is a Bitcoin millionaire, I doubt the news want to promote Bitcoin in a positive light though and the guy in questions tends to come across as a bit loony lol.

Damn... Well, I say we try to make our own star endorsement. Let's start making BTC celebrities.

If you were a BTC Millionaire, would you really want to advertise it? The point isn't the wealth, it is what this technology can bring.

My idea of this thread was merely to associate a person that people know with this "new" idea of Bitcoin. I'm sure it will happen and can you imagine when it does (in a good way of course!) The thing that still shocks me is the float - Can you believe there are only 11 million??? 10, 9, 8, 7,...

I would definitely want to advertise it if I became a BTC millionaire.

And I know that the technology can bring a lot, but the more people know what wealth it can bring, the more people will get involved in general, which will help it advance technologically.

I know that was the idea behind the thread, I just feel like we could make a celebrity.
Pick one person that makes videos, start giving them Bitcoins for doing things for us on video, and share the videos. Make our own BTC celebrity.

All right if no one else will do it...I will, however reluctantly.

Send me a few bitcoins each and once I'm a Bitcoin millionaire I will do my best to become a celebrity...whatever it takes.
I'm willing to pub crawl with starlets, hang out with Charlie Sheen...like I said, I'm committed to making this work.

10,000 Btc ought to do it.
Lets get started, the sooner the better.

Maybe a woman needs to do this too. ;)  I can target the female side.  Hey, I used to be a coffee shop singer/songwriter.  I could even write a Bitcoin song!

First verse could start:  Not just for the Winklevii, or for trying to get high . . .

I will work for cheap too.  1,000 BTC  ;D

Lol. If I had 1 bitcoin I could do it. I already make videos, write articles and take pictures.
There's no need to make someone a millionaire first.

I get paid early to mid June, and I'll start doing my own stuff.

Before we get a bunch of wannabe millionaire famous people asking for Bitcoins how about we devise a more ingenious plan? First get a team together, they have to be dressed and equipped to match this set of people:

x2 Photographers
x1 Agent
x1 Celeb
x1 Limo driver
x5 Young female fans

Ok once we have those all sorted, the team follows some real Paparazzi, after taking their shots of a big celeb their photo opportunity is over. At this point we must have the two photographers in the group of Paparazzi, ready and waiting. As the other celeb is out of view we get the limo driver to pull up in the Limo, the pretend "celeb" then gets out the Limo and has a go at the Limo driver for some reason (showing some ego/arrogance) before getting swamped by the female fans of course (shouting the pretend celebs name  ;)). At this point the agent has to be on the phone looking rushed and busy trying to organise the situation, our photographers shout "it is XXXX" and rush to start taking photos. At this point no self respecting Paparazzi will walk away, even if they don't know who it is because maybe they might get paid extra when they are back at the pulication office/agency.

This sets us up for quick recognition, some additional websites and self produced articles on said person might also help when do some research. This process could be repeated until something clicks and all of a sudden the new mystery celeb is in the public eye.

Expect an influx of new celebs after posting this lol.

Or we need a Bitcoin reality TV show.  Get about 10 Geeks together.  They have to live on only BTC in a house for a few months and they vote each other off the show.  The winner gets 1000 BTC.

Or one BTC bachelor has 10 girls to date and then instead of a rose, he gives her Bitcoin.

Or even better, (this one I am somewhat serious about)  there could be the Bitcoin Millionaire.  Someone who has actually made some good money in Bitcoin could do a reality TV show where he goes to some charity and donates some Bitcoin to a charity in need.

The ideas are endless.

If all that fails, I love Weird Al.  Maybe he could write a song about Bitcoin.   ;D

I doubt that a notable person endorsing BTC would be beneficial to his career or even long term employment. Watch The Union, replace marijuana with Bitcoins and/or monetary system whereas appropriate and you get the current situation.

The point is that there are people who hold power and the benefit of the public of even humanity long term isn't in their best interest, sustaining their power is higher up the priority list.

I already endorse Marijuana, as I have a misdemeanor warrant in Texas, but a Medical Card in Colorado. lol.

We should make our own BTC entourage.

The real hurdle is that most stars are liberals.  Once they get one whiff of the "liberarian" stuff that gets said around here, they'll not only do a complete 180, many would become advocates against it.  Maybe not publicly, but within their circles and that's all it takes.  "Hollywood" is not that big.

The Bitcoin diehards are going to have to tone the rhetoric way down, if you seriously want some "star power" on board.

Just my honest opinion.

I wouldn't worry much about "guilt through association". I see you point, but perhaps we should think of the current money system and less about ties with parties to BTC. I feel I am fairly versed in BTC and what it can do, and to be honest, your bringing up the libertarian point here, is the first it has crossed my mind. I have been looking at BTC itself.

I would really hope, considering all that is at stake here, that it won't come down to party affiliation!

Maybe you are right, but I hope not. Anyway, at least you were on point. All these posts now about twisting the title so they can be a millionaire and then spokesperson - ha ha  ::)

Come on, the point here guys is that, whether we like it or hate it, public figures can often make or break a cause. Then again there is the Streisand effect.  ;D
