Title: Fiba Asia Cup 2017
Post by: TravelMug on August 17, 2017, 10:17:16 PM
Haven't seen any thread about the Fiba Asia Cup 2017 that runs from Aug 8 -20. Right now the semi-final team cast as completed:

Korea beat the Philippines
Iran over Lebanon
New Zealand defeat Jordan
Australia over China

so in the cross-over, its gonna be:

Australia vs New Zealand
Iran vs Korea

http://www.fiba.basketball/asiacup/2017

What's is your prediction of this upcoming matches? Please discuss.

Looks like China's dominant in the Fiba Asia has already diminished. Although they still has the most medals won followed by the Philippines. I don't know what the Chinese team sent this year, but I'm assuming that its a fresh and young pool talent. Disappointing lost of Philippines as well, because the last 2 tournament they are in the Finals, losing to Iran and China. Chinese is the defending champion, but I guess we will crown a new one. I'm going with Iran here, although Hadid the former MVP is not around anymore, they have a good solid team.

If the Koreans can continue their hot shooting against Iran, they have a great chance of upsetting another powerhouse. What they did in the game against the Philippines was one of a kind. The Iranians still has Haddadi with them so they are still going to be really tough to beat. Meanwhile, the Kiwis and the Aussies figure to be in a tight match up as both of them have want to prove that they are now the kings of Asian basketball. These Asian squads are still far behind their Western counter parts in terms of skills and agility, but they are slowly improving and proving that even Asian teams can go head to head with Euro and Americas.

What a hot shooting display the South Koreans did to the Philippines. The Philippines has no chance of winning that night. Iranians defense are very good and they are a tad taller against the Koreans so I think they will be having a hard time shooting the ball from beyond the arc and I did the Iranians are expecting that the Koreans will still continue with their bread and butter here which is outside shooting so I expect them to tighten their defense specially around the paremeter and not give the Koreans the chance to shoot the ball freely.

I think if South Korean's will shown again their showing prowess against mighty Iran team, They will likely have a good chance to enter the Finals. But Iranians has a good outside shooting as well. So its gonna be a shooting night is this 2 teams decided to show their talent taking shots at the outside.

But the deciding factor here is Haddadi, experience wise he is the man to guard in the Iranian team. I'm picking Iran to go to the Finals again this year and probably ended up the champion again.

Quote

Can Korea end the Iranian curse and enter the Final?

BEIRUT (FIBA Asia Cup 2017) - The last time Korea beat Iran at the Asia Cup was way back in 2005, buy the East Asians are hoping to break the Iranian curse in the FIBA Asia Cup 2017 Semi-Finals.

The Koreans may have started slow in this tournament, losing to Lebanon on Day 1, but since then they have showcased a kind of fast-paced basketball that is at once fast and fascinating. Not to be outdone, however, Iran have been nothing short of indomitable. Team Melli are the fourth-best three-point shooting team in the tournament and actually score more fastbreak points than Korea. It's clear they don't exclusively rely on man-mountain Hamed Haddadi, though they will still need him to make his mark in this contest.

New Zealand - Australia   In last 5 games Australia won with 10 more points, here it would be nice to bet on New Zealand +14 odds are 1.6, doesn`t look bad. Also I think game will be tough so less then 157 points at 1.7 odd doesn`t look bad.

China - Jordan is also interesting game to bet on. Chine -7 at 1.8 odd sounds like easy win. China is better team, in past few games China was winner with +17 more points. Here I expect open game and more then 155 point at 1.69 odd.

I chose this two game, Philippines vs Lebanon and South Korea vs Iran will be tricky games, Iran is better but S. Korea can surprise. Also odds are taken from https://nitrogensports.eu/sport/basketball/fiba-asia-cup (https://nitrogensports.eu/sport/basketball/fiba-asia-cup), visit and place some bet. Good luck!

I made good predictions about winners, but I didn't predict points, I was wrong for a little.
Tonight games will be interesting to watch and bet on them, Australia and New Zealand will dominate in tonight games, I don't think that Iran have any chance to win against Australia and S. Korea will lose from N. Zealand. After last mistake with points I will not even try to give any predictions about that, except maybe that Australia and Iran will play better and in that game I expect more points in the end, but that doesn't mean anything, surprises are always possible. China can take 5 place with tonight's win, so maybe that can be a good choice for betting, we still have more time, later I will check odds and make some bets, good luck to all.

I was sick last couple of days so I wasn't able to put a bet. Damn.

Australia - Gold
Iran - Silver
South Korea - Bronze

Hamed Haddadi is the MVP again. He goes down in history as the first ever MVP of the new FIBA Asia Cup, offered by Tissot. Too bad Australia beat them, I think this is the first time that Australia has won the FIBA cup if I'm not mistaken. Australia made a good lead early, and Iran was unable to catch them up eventhough Haddadi was leading to lead the Iranians for a comeback. Congrats to the Ozzy's.

Well congrats for the new champion and i bet there are lot of frustrated countries that didnt make it. Well better try again next year. Well i guess Australia is now a lethal team in asia. But i gotta say its weird they are in that bracket. Im even amazed that S. Korea made it to the 3rd spot again. So sad for the Filipino fans out there. They had such a good play during the group stage. I hope they can be better the next FIBA Asia cup.

Philippines are the worst performer this FIBA, they were able to compete against Iran and South Korea in the past, they really miss the service of Blatche here, I thought they will make a good journey as at the start they beat the China. Anyway, they tried their best, better luck next time.

according to some rumors blatche didnt play since there's some security issue as this games played inside lebanon but i think if blatche was there Philippines will have a good look s.korea dominate since we don't have a big man who can play the role like he is and its not enough for our shooter
to compete with how s.korea shoot the ball that night.

I don't think that the Philippines is the worst performer this FIBA, they just sent a weak team this time as compared to the last previous years specially 2013-2015, I think that's the best team they have assembled but unfortunately they are runners up to Iran and China.  Even China also sent a sub par team this year. So its unfair to say that they perform worst.

I haven't heard about Blache issue though, but the Philippines has really miss his services this year. He is one player that the team has been relying in the past tournaments and him not going this year has really affected this performance and landing just 7th place from back to back runner up.

The blowout against korea may have dealt the ph team the loss that crushed their hopes of finishing higher in the tournament. I didn't think it was a weak team and i don't think not having blatche was the reason for the dismal outcome. The low moral was evident in the game against lebanon, a team which they can beat with or without blatche. Sticking to this current lineup may be the key as preparation it seems was just a few weeks before the tournament

Yes, it seems that the team Philippines lack of enough time to really prepare on this tournament and the pressure on their young roster to performed well from back to back 2nd place finish was too much I guess. If I'm not mistaken, they have already beaten Lebanon in the qualifying rounds isn't it? But still the team just landed 7th place when the tournament concludes.
